Actually it is very bad. Guys like Randle who are clearly superior players earn less. Grant isn't a starting level forward and he's paid the equivalent of the 2nd/3rd highest paid player on other teams.

Grant is at best a DFS level of player. He signed for the MLE in Houston.

Grant in 2023-24 was fine. Efficient scorer. Below average defender. Horrible rebounder. But a player that can be part of a rotation even if a bit overpaid.

Grant in 2024-25 was much worse. He shot 38% on TWO POINT shots which was below Bryce McGownes for 18th on the Blazers. Having a player on a $160 million contract with that shit production is crippling.

If Grant was earning the MLE it would be fine though. The problem is his contract. Does his level of play return to the prior year?

Also Grant demands of needing to start and needing roles, etc or wanting out is concerning. If he isn't going to perform its one thing. If he also is going to be a poor member of the locker room in addition to poor performance its another.

At this point the Blazers are probably just stuck with him for the time being so I suppose we start him and see what happens. But as a fan its super frustrating that we are starting old overpaid vets on the downside of their career instead of letting the best player who deserve minutes get to play.

Camara and Deni were most certainly NOT awful at all last season. Did you watch any games? I'd rather have them start at forward than Grant!

Blazers were very good the last part of the season defensively, and much better than any of the prior 4 years. That coincided with Grant sitting out a lot of games.

Personally I think the team sucked the last three years and I’d like to see them try to win rather than play to lose.
 
PORTLAND, Ore. (September 30, 2025) — The Portland Trail Blazers have signed MarJon Beauchamp, Liam Robbins and Javonte Cooke,
General Manager Joe Cronin announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Beauchamp (6-6, 199) boasts three seasons of NBA experience—most recently finishing the 2024-25 season with New York on a two-way
contract. The Yakima, Washington, native was selected No. 24 overall in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks and played 126 total
games (12 starts) for the Bucks over three seasons (2022-25) before finishing out the 2024-25 season with stints with the LA Clippers
(three games) and New York Knicks (six games).

Robbins (7-0, 250) joins the Trail Blazers after spending the 2024-25 season on a two-way contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, appearing in
13 games for the Bucks and 13 games (seven starts) for the G League’s Wisconsin Herd, where he averaged 9.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and
1.8 blocks in 20.3 minutes per game. Robbins played five collegiate seasons at Drake (2018-20), Minnesota (2020-21) and Vanderbilt
(2021-23)—earning 2023 SEC Defensive Player of the Year and 2023 All-SEC First Team honors during his final collegiate season with the
Commodores.

Cooke (6-6, 185) is coming off his third G League season in 2024-25—averaging 17.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.0 steal in
28.2 minutes per game with the Oklahoma City Blue. Cooke spent the previous two seasons with the Iowa Wolves (2022-24) after playing
collegiately at Mars Hill University and Winston-Salem State.

IMO he has elite offensive skills, last year a little down on 3 point shooting but I think he’ll get back to shooting over 37%. While I think Grant obviously plays better D his rebounding sucks, his passing is limited and offensive skill wise Sharpe is already as good or better than Grant.

Our roster situation is interesting. We have all 15 roster spots filled. We also seem to have two of the 2-way spots filled. You would think that would leave us with only one 2-way spot available. I think we will be able to free up one more roster spot because if Dame isn't playing at all this season we can get an exemption.

Should be interesting to see what we end up doing with our 2-way contracts and if we apply for the exemption to free up Dame's roster spot.

Totally agree. I will say also that it is reasonable to expect Shaedon at 22 years old to be better than he ever has been before, while retaining significant future upside. With Jerami you can only hope that he can make it back to the best spot he's been in his career after a significantly down year last year.

I'm not going to throw a fit if Shae is coming off of the bench and Jerami is starting but I will be disappointed.

There's no 'exemption' available for Dame's roster spot.
Teams can only carry a maximum of 15 players on the team regardless of the situation.

There is an injury exception, but it is only for salary cap considerations (think of a extra tMLE). It has no bearing on roster spots.

Regardless, since Portland signed Dame to a contract after the injury, they would not be eligible for an exemption.
 
Nice article on Jrue complimenting Sharpe saying how great he looks offensively. For me this is something I always put a lot of weight into, I want to know what players are standing out during training camp (O’Neal always got tons of praise and teammates knew he was going to be good). Hearing Jrue say Sharpe was taking it to him means more than a coach saying it
