Storyteller updated his numbers last night

assuming the cap is the same (which I think it will lower), we have a team salary of $49.982 mil (See actual column) which gives us cap space of $8.699 mil

waive/trade Claver, Kopo and Freeland and you can add about $2.6 mil to that

waiving Blake and Outlaw before July 1 can add $8.25 mil to that

cap going down say $1.5 mil reduces the cap space of course, or whatever number happens

It's not way off at all.

Assuming we renounce Frye, which we will, Portland will have 7 million in cap space. Not picking up the guarantees on Blake and Outlaw gives us 7 million more. 7 million + 7 million is 14 million I believe.

I am not saying they will renounce Blake and Outlaw, I am saying I think they will trade them. Trading them is losing their salary just like waiving them is. For example. Let's say the Magic want Outlaw and Blake so they sign and trade Hedo to us for 9 million. Wouldn't that be the same as simply waiving Blake and Outlaw and signing him outright for 9 million? The answer is yes.

Portland for all intents and purposes has 14 million to play with until July 1st

I thought when you waive a player, the money counts against your books as if they were on the roster.

Nope. He counts against our cap this summer (and every summer until we renounce his rights). If the goal was more cap room, we should have traded out of the 1st round.

Plus, if we stash Claver overseas for a couple years, and he really is "lottery talent", he'll make way more money staying in Europe than the Blazrs will be able to offer him due to the rookie salary scale for 1st round picks.

BNM

yeah, just like Rudy huh? To some players its not about the money. Just like Rudy. They want to play in the NBA. Not make more money in Europe. Or they would have never entered their names in the draft.

The answer is no. Blake and Outlaw's contracts become guaranteed if they aren't waived by June 30th. You can start talking to free agents on July 1st, and sign them the 8th (?). So once we can start talking to Hedo, Blake and Outlaw are already expiring contracts for 2010. Orlando would have to want both of them to consent to a S&T, something that's unlikely given that if they could take on $7-8m in contracts, they'd just resign Hedo themselves.

Not necessarily.

If Hedo says he is not re-signing, then they have a couple of options. They can let him walk, or they can get two players who can help them a lot and are both expiring contracts. Signing Hedo for 9 million for 4-5 years is a lot different than taking on Blake and Outlaw's 9 million for 1 year.

fair enough, they might go for a Blake-Hedo trade, with Portland's capspace absorbing the extra 5 million Hedo would make.

Just for clarification, I don't think they will. They could however. Blake and Travis will probably be here next year and there will be a clusterfuck of a log jam. Chemistry will be a problem and I will get to say I told everyone so.

What if Pendergraph or Cunningham is better then Blair? They both have good knees.

They may be healthier - they will never be "better". Blair and Cunningham went head-to-head in college, and Blair owned his butt every time. (despite Cunningham being older and more experienced)

I guess that is what I get for believing what I read on DraftExpress. Glad I could at least make your day.

Bitter much? I just thought you'd prefer to have correct information rather than incorrect information. Sorry if becoming better informed ruined your day. ;)

Oh, Minstrel!

You do pay attention to what I type when we chat! :)

Ha. Credit whore. ;) I didn't take credit for the research...in fact, I thought you had already posted it in some thread. I was just pointing it out, since it became relevant in this one.

Sorry, that didn't come out the way I intended. I trusted the wrong source, and you caught me. Not a problem. The "making your day" comment was, I thought, obviously tongue-in-cheek.

No problem. I misread you, then...I thought you were lashing out at me, when I wasn't snide or anything in my post.

All is well.
