Why on earth does this guy continue to leave Greg Oden out of his top 10 rookies in his T-Mobile Rookie Report at nba.com?
I mean, come on. He has Jason Thompson ranked 7th and Marc Gasol ranked 8th, but no Oden. For the season, Oden has better over all numbers than both, and he's doing it for the 8th best team in the league, the current 5th seed in a very tough Western Conference. Thompson is putting up inferior numbers on the second worst team in the entire league (last in the Western Conference). And Gasol is doing it on the 5th worst team in the league - and the team that is sinking the fastest.
These rankings are supposed to somehow give preference to recent play, and recently Oden has been outplaying all the other big men in his top 10. For the season, Oden leads ALL rookies in PER. He is second in total rebound % (behind Kevin Love, who is 2nd in PER and also not in this clown's Top 10 rookies). Oden leads all rookies, by a substantial margin in FG% and TS%.
And, of course, leads all rookies in double-doubles - and lately has become a double-double machine. He has averaged 16.4 PPG and 11.6 RPG over his last 5 games. And the Blazers are 4 - 1 during that stretch. By comparison, Gasol has averaged 8.6 PPG and 5.6 RPG over the last 5 games and the Grizzlies have, of course, gone 0 - 5. Thompson has played better individually than Gasol over the last 5 games, (15 PPG, 6.8 RPG) but still not nearly as good as Oden. And like Gasol, Thompson's team is 0 - 5 over that stretch. Now, would someone with a brain please do the math and tell me who is playing better and helping their team win more? And, why isn't he in this fool's top 10 rookies?
This guy gets paid to do this? You can't be serious. Ask any GM who they'd rather have on their team right now, totally ignoring potential, and just based on current performance, and I'd wager 30 out of 30 would pick Greg Oden over Marc Gasol and Jason Thompson. This guy is a joke.
