Barkley also said that he would take Andrew Bynum over Greg Oden for the future on Colin Cowherd's show.
That's not too far-fetched right now. Bynum's a stud.

Barkley also said Oden would never be a great offensive player.
Perhaps we all have too high of expectations for Oden?
Too high? Possibly. But I don't think anyone expected Duncan, Shaq, Kareem, Hakeem, and a top 10 all-time scorer. Greg's hook shot has looked a lot better since his first game, he's just not getting enough chances to showcase what he has.
I don't think Greg will ever be a 20-25 ppg scorer. But he will be a 10-14 rpg, and 3.0 bpg kind of player, to go along with 17-20 ppg.
So he won't be an all-time elite-level NBA center, at least based on what you expect from him.
I expect more Bill Russell with his biggest impact on the defensive end, and an adequate threat on the block to score on occasion. So yes, he can still be an all-time elite level NBA center.
Oden has to average 22.5 rpg over his entire career to play on Russell's level. Russell actually grabbed 51 rebounds in a single game once.
Do you guys see how Greg is playing? I am not going to go on some huge rant, but he just really looks bad out there. Looking terrible. So sluggish. No passion. No confidence. What the heck is his problem? Does he need a shrink like Martell did a couple years ago?
I can't lie. I always wonder what would have happened if we got Durant. Yeah it might mean we wouldn't have got Bayless more then likely. But at this point who cares. We would have ended up in the 13-20 ish range and we could have got a serviceable backup center for Joel. Javale McGee or Roy Hibbert... someone like that. Lineup would be...
Blake\Sergio
Roy\Rudy
Durant\Outlaw\Batum?
LMA\Frye
Joel\McGee or Hibbert
I hate to say it but I think I would prefer that lineup at this point. I want to be wrong and I hope Oden comes out of his shell. I am just thinking of how good we would be with the above lineup.
I'm not sure what everyone is watching but I thought Oden played ok tonight and was trying.

My Oden fear is that he's the NBA version of Vince Young! Vince was the QB that was to change it all..... then he saw the lights, the pressure and the expectations and folded.
What Greg is going through looks to me completely mental. He needs to RELAX and have fun. Kobe didn't become Kobe without error. I remember dunks he missed, shots and passes he blew and games he lost. The difference is Kobe kept shooting and having fun until the mental of the NBA caught up with his natural gifts. Greg must do the same!
When you play NOT to disappoint you do. Greg needs to get crazy right now when this team is expected to take a few years to come together. If Greg were to break the flipping backboard and foul out instantly it would be a step up to what he's doing now.
Maybe I'm just easily excitable, but I think he's looking better out there on the court now. Realizing how much better he'll look months from now, get's me juiced up!

Maybe you didnt, but I read a lot of posts here saying that he would be a scorer like that. Those opinions are spread over hundreds of threads so I really dont want to look for quotes but I do remember opinions that he would be a scorer like that.

You know, I've seen what Hakeem and Robinson's post moves looked like when they were 20. Can't say I'm that impressed.
Maybe, just perhaps, Greg may get better at something basketball-related at some point over the next 15 years?
I don't think there's anything wrong with averaging 17-20 points, 10-14 rebounds and 3 blocks a game for a career. That's pretty dominant in itself.
Greg's always been viewed as going to be a defensive force, with time needed to develop his offensive game. And averaging a double-double every night with nearly 20 points per game is not too shabby for a career.
None of those elite centers ever had a PF who could potentially command as much attention on the low block as LaMarcus.

Agree with most of your post, until you asserted that late-90's Tim Duncan didn't get as much attention as LMA.![]()
