4 kids living in a not so nice area of Houston had their parents hauled away on drug charges and murder charges. So please wish me luck on instilling some positive values in my four "new children", Malik - 2, Shaniqua (SP?), 6, Jantone, 9 and Davidisha, 12. Wishing me luck on how I am going to feed them along with my own 3 kids and my mother and father in law would also be nice of you

just watch the church scene from Blues Brothers.

That's great that you're keeping the kids together! Don't forget to breast feed all of them so they bond to you.

Right now, according to Davidisha, they are pretty happy to have beds and air conditioning so I think I should be ok for a while

Wow, impressive that you are doing that -- those kids are incredibly lucky that you're stepping up. A good friend of my wife adopted seven (yes, 7!) kids from one family in a similar situation a few years back...and they already had one child. They had a few rough patches in the early going, but have hit their stride and are doing better than well. I know they've done it on not much income -- pretty sure their approach is that everyone in the family does their part and has chores/jobs, no matter what the age. I think it was a little difficult to get the kids to buy into that early on, but they stuck to it and they've become tight knit with that one-for-all, all-for-one approach.

I don't look at it as impressive or whatever, but it's just the right thing to do.

We are not sure if they will be with us permanently, but at least for several months.

Don't lie, this is all a plot to get racial immunity

major props MM. Congrats!

I really do get tired of crossing the street every time I see a black person on the sidewalk

you're also ok to vote against Obama without being called racist and whatever your view on the Trayvon Martin case is now suddenly valid. :MARIS61:

Props to you for helping them! But please dont teach them to hate the Trail Blazers! :devilwink:

That reminds me, I should probably take that Jesse Jackson dart board down

Congrats, MM! I'd be worried about your influence on the kids.... But considering the parents' "situation"....

Did you know the kids beforehand?

No. A friend of ours works with situations like this, and asked if we would be willing to take them because we had been certified as a foster parent in the past for a different situation

Start molding Malik and Jantone into future basketball stars. You've got them early enough!

It would be the black thing to do......I will get right on it

You could be the next Sandra Bullock on the Blind Side.

It's tough financially, but families do get some money from the Government to help with the extra cost of food, clothing and such

I am sure Syracuse is a fine university, as long as you don't go there wanting to be a good pro basketball player

My hat's off to you, MM. I hope things go well for all of you.

Go Blazers
