I am new father

How much do they pay you? Are the kids covered under programs for insurance and school meals? Any other perks? It probably differs in each state. In Minnesota, Michelle Bachman made her living this way for several years.

4 kids living in a not so nice area of Houston had their parents hauled away on drug charges and murder charges. So please wish me luck on instilling some positive values in my four "new children", Malik - 2, Shaniqua (SP?), 6, Jantone, 9 and Davidisha, 12. Wishing me luck on how I am going to feed them along with my own 3 kids and my mother and father in law would also be nice of you

Wow, what an awesome task in front of you. Major props for doing this. It'll mean more to those kids than you may ever know.

Covered under insurance program, and I'm not sure how someone could make a living off of this. We haven't got all of the details yet, but I think it's around $600 a month per child

$600 x 4 = $2400 a month = $28,800 a year

this included with likely food stamps, housing vouchers, and healthcare...there are many families of 5 or more living on less

My ex-brother in law's wife couldn't have children so they adopted 5 unrelated babies all at once. He wasn't paid; he can afford it because he's a doctor. 4 were a little retarded and 1 had such bad health problems that they took him back after a few months. The kid died a few years later from his heart. My kid visits his remaining cousins every year and plays with them.

Helathcare is included. I am not sure about the other stuff though? Living on this would be tough, but making a living off of this, I can't imagine. Just going over in my head with my own kids expenses......

Daughter - 16

Guitar lessons - $100
Clothes - $100
Make up, hair, mani/pedis - $200
Care insurance - $275 (for her)

So that right there is almost $700 and we haven't fed her yet, or cooled/warmed the house, did anything social (movies, concerts, phone, whatever)

Uh, MM, can you be my daddy too? The guitar lessons, the mani/pedi, free car insurance, air conditioning...it all sounds good.

It's pretty awesome being my kid. She actually just got a job, so she will be paying towards her own car insurance.

very impressed that you would do something so special for these kids. I hope everything works out for them and you.

Step 1:

Change their names. Really, I mean Davidisha? LMAO

I could never call someone Davidisha with a straight face.

Please tell me her insurance isn't 275 a month.

Yep. She is a straight A student and took defensive driving too. All the discounts there are. We have a perfect driving record as well, and a "budget" insurance company

holy shit. the MOST I ever paid for insurance (granted, 17 years ago back when I was a youngin') was 113 a month. And I was a male.

well, i still am a male, but wow...275 a month is a incredible rip-fucking-off.

If my daughter does, how is it fair for them not to?

my point was that most foster kids dont get them, therefore it is silly to use those figures in determining if someone could make a living off of it

So in other words, about 3 times what the average American worker has to support his kids.

Wow, really? That's depressing. The average American worker only has $200 a month to support a child?

I met this cutie last night at the bar named Juliusisha and...oh SHIT. What did I DO.

Probably less.

Deduct all the expenses you had before you took these children in (an admirable act), factor in the cost of adding 4 more bedrooms to your home, their health insurance, food, schooling, clothing...

Oh damn! Way to go MM! All seriousness aside, don't let their love for the Texas teams get too out of hand. Encourage them to love their local hero of LMA. ;]
