I love all the players on this team and was deeply disturbed by the comments made by fans in the article (especially the death one), and after the article was posted. I love my Blazers and I take criticism on all of them badly. So I wanted to publicly apologize for trippin'

Yes Roy played like shit, but I still have hope the kid will come through. Probably unpopular opinion in here; but I will still hold to my guns.

I am still sticking by my Blazers in 5! :D

Dang, a day away, and I miss all the excitement..where did you flame out at, Mags? Off to look for smoldering posts..

No worries. We don't call it a forum meltdown, we call it a normal day for KingSpeed! ;)

Mags I would love noting better than for Roy to score 20 pts plus every game and help us win, I thnk given his injuries and what we have seen from him this year that unfortunately is a total fantasy. I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong, but I try to deal in reality.

I think my flame had more to do with the comments made in and on the article. It just really bothers me that people are so willing to toss Roy away like a bad birthday gift. And probably these are the same people that cheered the hell out of Roy when he was B-Roy the Allstar. But whatever man, I know some people are wired that way.

Hopefully Roy comes out and proves the multitude wrong. The bandwagon will welcome them after they eat some crow. <-- Probably comment that they knew it all along that Roy will come back to form again.

Apologize?

Do you think that Harry Callahan apologized for saying:

I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?
?

Do you think Riggs apologized for saying:

Well, what do you wanna hear, man? Do you wanna hear that sometimes I think about eatin' a bullet? Huh? Well, I do! I even got a special bullet for the occasion with a hollow point, look! Make sure it blows the back of my goddamned head out and do the job right! Every single day I wake up and I think of a reason not to do it! Every single day! You know why I don't do it? This is gonna make you laugh! You know why I don't do it? The job! Doin' the job! Now that's the reason!
?

Don't apologize for it, celebrate it!!

Fan is short for Fanatic. Nobdoy is seriously trying to kill Roy people in the article just get caught up in their emotions and say outlandish things. Kind of like a few of your posts. ;)

The death thing was way over the top, though. "Fans" like that guy only damage the image of Rip City.

I can't imagine a Blazers fan who doesn't want Roy to come through and help us win playoff games. As far as "(tossing) Roy away" if he can't: When players don't come through and help win games, that's all part of the life cycle of a basketball player. The team, the fans, and the players are all in it to win it. That's what matters, not playing guys who can't produce anymore.

Oh, and I didn't think you melted down. I thought that was your normal. :)

Cheers bro!

You know what the problem is Mags, I'm a Blazers fan, not a Roy fan. If Roy were traded or if he had somehow signed with someone else, I wouldn't still be a fan of Brandon Roy. I am grateful for all he did for the organization, but at this point in his career he's hurting the team more than he's helping. This version of Roy is not a max contract player, so even if he scores 12 or 15 ppg and hands out a couple of assists in 25 minutes, he's still nothing more than a shell of himself and he's taking up a ton of cap space. Without numbers like he had prior to the injuries to his knees, he'll never be able to make up for the giant weight he's put on our salary cap. That's just a sad fact.

Roy is on the Blazers. That isn't going to change. So, you can spend the next 3 years bitching about Roy, and 2 years about Nate, or you can dramatically alter your posting style and be positive once in a while. Your act in the game thread was tired, and then you disappeared once the Blazers started playing well with Roy in the line-up.

You should inform each person on how they can be a better poster on this forum. You could have your own thread for it. I'd read it.

I have an act? Shit... I had no idea. Maybe I should rehearse more often. Polish it up. Maybe take it on the road? Where is this "other forum" that you and so many others have migrated to? I could do a set there.

I wouldn't be too sure about Roy being on the Blazers for three more years though. I have a feeling we might see the amnesty clause make a comeback, and if that's the case, Roy will find himself without a job.

Well, we really do need to kick Roy to the curb if we have any chance of winning.

What are you talkin about BP... every team needs a Steve Francis, Andrei Kirilenko, Allan Houston type contract on their books.

Unless there's an amnesty, Roy will be here for the full duration of his contract.

Unless Nate is gone, Roy will play 25 minutes per night.

In all seriousness, I agree with both those statements. Nate's old school and old school states that washed up franchise players get to play whenever they want- no matter how badly it hurts the team.

I lead by example, but I'm not afraid to call out others. I guess I'm a bit like Andre Miller, in that regard.

I already posted the results from the last ten games of the season when Roy played 20+ minutes. People can ignore facts in order to advance their argument, but it makes the argument a bit foolish, IMO. Roy is a ~14 PER player off of the bench who demands extra attention from the defense. I guess I don't know what else Nate is supposed to do. Play more Patty Mills, or more Rudy?

After reading this entire thread I apologize for not melting down.

That wouldn't happen to have anything to do with the addition of Gerald Wallace, which was around the exact same time frame, would it? :devilwink:

Why haven't you called me out yet? Surely I can improve as a poster.

Of course I understand that, but another sad truth is we are and will be stuck with Roy's contract. In terms of "Cap Space", even without Roy's contract; we would still be over cap. The only thing that would change is the possibility of luxury tax relief for the owner. Do you think this will help the Blazers? Wouldn't you rather hope for the best, cheer Roy on as much as you can; hoping he can get back to old form?

Listen maybe Roy's explosiveness is all but behind him, but he has arguably the highest B-Ball IQ on the floor. If he was to at least get his confidence back, possibly figure out another playing style that would suit his health condition and be a floor general, leader and mentor for the other up and coming Blazers, then that is worth it's weight in Gold.

People must remember, with or without Roy's contract, we will be over cap, regardless. Nothing, no negotiations, even cap increase will give us room. The only way that it could possibly help is if the league allowed an insurance to "Max Contract Players"; if they could no longer play at the level they were signed to; then the team has that much money to sign a free agent. The owner would still have to pay the luxury tax and the salary of the max player would still be on the books.

That would make it a little harder for teams to just toss a player; just because they cannot live up to expectations.
