I know its very early in ST, trust me, I've followed a few through the years lol, but I sense something good taking place right before our eyes regarding the Yankees' new crop of young farmhands.
I've noticed that Refsnyder has been getting his hits playing 2b and he has yet to demonstrate to be a liability defensively.
No reason to think of him being a fluke after he's already proven to hit well through the farm system. Pirela has also continued to get his share of hits from his short stint last season right up to current ST.....not sure where or what his position is. lol
Greg Bird is a legitimate power bat/1b and this Jake Cave (O.F.), IMO, is a keeper.
I also think JR Murphy has a real chance to be a good young catcher.

But here, by all accounts, is the "star" of the new crop, Aaron Judge.
He's already made a statement that he's going to do all he can to make it hard for the Yanks to send him back to the minors after ST, and I like that, a lot!

Here's a nice article on him:

If, when, possibly, the Yanks can soon work in one or two young pitchers for the SP, I see a Yankee resurgence.....very soon.
Mitchell (SP) has possibilities.
He too has said he plans on "staying" with the team after ST....lol, I love it.

Yes the kids look good & even this big kid Judge looks like the real deal, UNFORTUNATELY with the 38 year old Beltran planted in RF & Drew as our starting 2nd baseman I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the young guys to get a chance. Sorry but................................................that's just the Yankee way.

Not if "The Yankees" really do have a plan.
Sure, of course and they SHOULD want to see if a couple of their high priced players can bounce back even if it's just for this season and at least come close to putting up "good" numbers......if not, I DO believe the Yanks won't hesitate to call in one or two of their young players providing those players are maintaining their progression.

And don't be so surprised if the Yanks do give the 2b job to Refsnyder if he continues to do what he does best---HIT.
It could be a tough call if Drew does well in ST....otherwise, Drew (imo) will be an insurance policy and/or back-up part time SS/2b.

If "we" really want to envision things working out well, which is ALWAYS a scenario MGRS and GMs hope for.....the Yanks could have a fine young SS/2b duo with Drew being a very solid veteran backup adding good depth to the team....
.....specifically the infield which is what the Yankees - IMO - are hoping for.

As for Drew making 5 mil this year, do you think he'll be the only backup/ part time player in MLB making that kind of money?
Obviously if he hits .167 again it's horrible, otherwise not.

If Drew even hits 230 - 240 during ST he'll be the opening day 2nd baseman.

Which leads to the obvious question, what do they do with Refsnyder if he has a good-very good ST?
He proved he can hit in the minors, and I don't see them keeping him on the team as a bench player.
I don't think they want him to be a AAAA player as he approaches his mid20s.

If he does well in ST, I think he's the starting Yankee 2b on opening day. We'll see what happens.

I think Judge rightfully needs another year in the minors and then hopefully we will see him up in the big leagues.

In the link Jill supplied in the other thread, Judge may be trade bait.

What you sense are some potential pieces to another series of good teams that will not make the playoffs in 2015 and 2016. They will break into the post season in 2017 and start another streak then.

There is insufficient data to make any determinations. You are sensing what you want to sense, and that's fine. Let's just not make another argument out of opposing emotions.

Who is sensing what on wanting sense makes no sense.

If that stupid ass GM had held on to Prado, not signed Drew, and this Refsnyder kid panned out the Yankee infield would have been good both defensive and offensive. That being said Cashman better hope Di Di pans on both field and dish or they'll regret that Greene Trade.

Sense? Oh....that's our hitting coach.

I'm more mad about the Headley contract. Cashman and the well if we can only get the 2012 Headley back. Meanwhile every other season gives a good indication of exactly what he is.

Yup....this clueless mgmt group doesn't quite understand that the clock doesn't run backwards in baseball....especially in the PED-free version of the MLB.

I've seen this scenario before. It always ends the same. Cashman and
his body guards will use these kids as chattel for a name property.
The vicious cycle never ends with this management. When it changes,
Cashman will not be here......and neither will the boy owners.
Yes, I have a jaundice eye on this Yankee regime.

And just to prove my point........the Cole Hamels rumors.

This organization just cannot develop their own players.....and keep them!

"Let's just not make another argument out of opposing emotions".

Not sure where you were trying to go with that but let's just say I thought my original post didn't need or ask for your interpretation.
I thought we all kinda already knew there are no guarantees with prospects as you say:
"there is insufficient data to make any determinations"

But there are things called scouting reports and evaluations made by numerous people in baseball....some of them you may have heard of, "scouts", "GMs"?
And how much "data" is sufficient data?.... stats from the last 2-3 years in the minor leagues followed by a 4 or 5 year body of work at the MLB level?

I don't recall saying I expected all of the Yanks' top/ higher rated prospects to make the team this year and lead them to the world series.....but the funny thing is, you have already made a "determination" for the next TWO baseball seasons (2015-16) by saying the Yankees won't be qualifying for at least a wildcard based on no "DATA" because NOTHING HAS HAPPENED yet, and of course this has to also include the other 14 A.L. teams.
Fine with me.....
......I respect your ability to sense what effect the 4,860 or so games played by A.L teams over the next two years will have on the Yankees.

2017......I've said since last ST, 2017 is the Ryan Expresses Year to win it all, and Yep, you heard it here 1st, if not 2017, then 2018 for those fktards in Orange....

As for the Yanx, anything can happen at any time. Or- We reserve the right to get smart at any time in the program...!

Yanks are a year or 2 away with some good youth starting to come. Refsnyder needs to be given 2nd base and stop with the retreads already. Trashman needs to stop with these bullshit longterm gigantic dollars contracts for aging players that are killing our team. Very pissed that the boy blunders (Steinbrenner twins) really didn't think they could find someone better than trash man and brought this asshole back for more.

Ten games in this spring......Pirela, Cave and
Bird have impressed at the plate. Pirela needs
to improve his defense.

Mrmel,

Yankee GM and owners just do not care how
fans feel about their product. It is always
'stay the course' and then trade the kids for
name players. Their 'plan' is old hat.....and so
wrong to build future championship teams.

I don't think you'll be seeing the Yankees trading "all" of their young prospects.....its not going to happen because contrary to what most of the board feels, Cashman/Yanks do have a plan and it IS to get younger and more "athletic" and they've been saying it for the past couple of years.....Gregorius is an example, he may or not pan out but they have made the "gamble"...
......don't know how many of our posters have heard or remembered Hal and company recently laid down the law and addressed the farm system directors/instructors regarding the quality and readiness of their young prospects.

But keep in mind, just like any other team, the Yankees could and may use one or two prospects as trade chips to help acquire a good young established player NOT past his prime who can step right in and help the team.
The trick is to try and hold onto your better prospects in any possible trade.

Time will tell. Right now its all just wait & see.

Right now with Girardi's premature & foolish announcement that Drew will be the opening day 2nd baseman after only 10-11 games into spring training. I'll be real curious to see if one of the kids (Pirela / Rhysnyder. isn't kept up if Drew finishes up ST going 5-50. Currently 1-13.

Pirela, according to Girardi can be used both around the infield AND outfield because he has played those positions but in any case, so far, this guy has done nothing but prove he can HIT- and if it continues they WILL find a spot for him.
And don't forget Judge and Severino (P) who by just about all accounts amoung baseball "people" are legitimate good prospects with high ceilings.

It's not safe to assume the ordinary laws of Baseball, will ever be utilized by the Stein Kids, and Trash-Man.....!

quite on the contrary....!

Stop the same old tired crap will ya?
Give me examples where the Stein Kids are worse than most of the other ownerships in their league......unless you had a problem with them signing Beltran (or Grandy), Ellsbury and McCann.
I don't think the "farm system" ruse is going to work anymore because the Yankees DO have a good crop of farmhands (and its no secret amoung baseball people) who are not very far away from wearing pinstripes and you'll probably see one or two THIS year....maybe three if the LH reliever Lindgren stays on schedule.
And Severino (SP) if the injury bug bites a couple of SP....yikes.

Don't forget Refsnyder......and Pirela - so far- from what we've seen from his hitting last September and current ST will be playing SOMEWHERE for the Yanks and will be in the lineup until he stops hitting.
And Jacob Lindgren (LH) reliever, Rothschild, minor league instructors and various other scouting reports say he should/could be ready right now.

Tonight vs Boston, Lindgren, 1 IP, 3Ks, 0 Runs
