The oceans are dead. No more salmon.
We used to eat smelt all the time when I was a kid. I can't remember what they taste like.

They taste like bait but you'd have to remember what bait tastes like to make the connectionWe used to eat smelt all the time when I was a kid. I can't remember what they taste like.

Well not quite. April/May when it took the MarAzul up the Columbia, I had my eye open for a good fishing spot, like where the fisherman where catching fish. Never found that spot between Astoria and Portland, I mean not one fish caught by a fisherman!
That is damn near incredible. But while I was looking, I did notice a lot of sea lions in the river, like thousands!
I did see seven sea lions with a fish. So we know there are still some salmon but the catching of them is now different, sea lions 7, fisherman 0.
It has been 41 years since I ran the river in a boat, back then no sea lions and lots of fish and fisherman catching fish.
It has been 44 years now since the marine mammals act passed. We sure have a bunch of those!
Oh btw, while I was up in the Portland area, the authorities closed the river to fishing, not enough fish where bing counted at Bonneville. They were afraid not enough fish were going to make it to the spawning grounds.
Time to start fishing for sea lions....a little hot sauce and garlic...if it's good enough for sharks, it's good enough for zerosYup. Same issue with sea lions around Seattle too. Things are everywhere. Uhh, yeah, you probably already know that....
I'm proud to be a zero...met most of the flock at the meet and greet at the Moda Center last fall...somewhere Sly has a picture of the entire flock!Liked. Except for the zeros comment....
I've only been seen by one person here. I'm a zero, but a taciturn one. Maybe I'll try to be more gregarious when I get back to Portland.I'm proud to be a zero...met most of the flock at the meet and greet at the Moda Center last fall...somewhere Sly has a picture of the entire flock!
Nice one! I also see that you're a connoisseur of fine wines, like me. I can tell by your cork screw selection....And here's the beast!!! Taken at my son's house.

Back to your fish story!I find good reds from Australia, Chile, South Africa, Slovenia..etc for under 4 bucks a bottle all the time. I like Pinot Noirs from the northwest a lot.My humor aimed at myself kinda missed on that one. Anymore, my idea of a fine wine is a 4 dollar one from Grocery Outlet....Back to your fish story!
Talking about fishing is way more fun than talking about Trump. Any suggestions for a spinning reel that doesn't cost a fortune?...I heard the Mitchell 300 is good...I need a new rod and reel.
Where do you normally buy your wine at? Sounds like there's a really good selection....I find good reds from Australia, Chile, South Africa, Slovenia..etc for under 4 bucks a bottle all the time. I like Pinot Noirs from the northwest a lot.
anywhere really, I found good Slovenian Cabs and Chilean Cabs in Bimart, Fred Meyers...lots of places. They seem to buy test cases and they come and go so you need to be there when there are some in stock.Where do you normally buy your wine at? Sounds like there's a really good selection....
I saw a video of one on youtube and it was built like a tank...all non corrosive metal inside and out...looked like it could take a beating. I guess they still make them. I don't mind a little extra weight when casting.Mitchell 300? Man do they even make those any more? They were the real deal about 60 years ago, and I still have a couple.
A guy gave me one for guiding him steelhead fishing on the North Santiam, just about 62 years ago. The dang things were real expensive back then, like 25 bucks. I was pleased as can be to get one. I suppose he knew it would work.
As far as Trump is concerned, you don't need to like him, he will need to earn that step. The only Presidents I ever "liked" before
I voted for them was JFK and RR. Only three I didn't like before they became president, Nixon, Carter, Obama. so no votes there.
I didn't like Johnson but I didn't know it until he made me aware of how bad he was. Never got to vote for or against Eisenhower
but he would have been on the no no list. Far too frivolous with sending guys into harms way.
Ha! I always associate Johnson with the Gulf of Tonkin incident. One of the destroyers that supposedly was attack in that incident
was of the same class I served on as Main Battery Fire control. That story just didn't smell right at all. My first thought was,
WTF? That had to be a hoot, having torpedo boats attacking a destroyer! Main Battery firing practice, no contest, show over in seconds. Bull Shit, just like the video that kicked off Benghazi.
Johnson is long gone but the lady that come up with the bull shit about Benghazi is still bull shitting. One destroyer dispatched to the gulf of Sidra at flank speed could have saved the day. She didn't do it, She didn't even try. That is criminal ineptitude.
Edit. $25 was expensive. My one bedroom house I rented cost me $6 a month.

It's a lot like fishing...right place and right time..they usually sell out quick and never show up again.Lol. I was gonna say all we really have to choose from, are Roths, Safeway and Freddies. Maybe I should take a closer look.....
This should be a sticky. No irrational discussions about politics, LGBTQ, race, terrorism, or leo issues...It's a lot like fishing...right place and right time..they usually sell out quick and never show up again.

Ok, you two called him out. You gotta give him credit for the pic. Sure, it could be a stuffed one. Either way, it's a nice one.....
I'll produce it after the elections but you must fund my charity for a peek...1.4 million dollars and it comes with a tv dinner on my deck with free parking for half an hourI still haven't seen his fishing license. I suspect it's from Kenya.

Sounds like a nice, relaxing evening. I have yet to go this year, but I'm pretty excited. State fair is almost here.....went on an evening trout fishing hike on the Long Tom River.....difficult place to cast but nice river.....lost one that broke the hook again...son got a nice cutthroat trout and gave it to the wife for dinner....all in all a good outing but I'm still looking for my first trout of the season....so far only bass
