By suggesting Joe Johnson for the picks he lost any credibility he had left.

Apparently the management aren't the only ones in total denial about this roster.

Re: Brian Wheeler is HORRIBLE

the picks are historically worthless versus a guy like Joe Johnson. you're way overvaluing the picks.

Maybe six years ago. Joe has been on the decline since he signed that atrocious contract, a contract that has four years left on it at age 31.

I think the worst part about this is that Portland wouldn't really be able to make any other moves to get better because that takes all of their assets. (picks and cap space)

Re: Brian Wheeler is HORRIBLE

And I don't think Johnson has ever been worth two lotto picks. The next time he has a PER that reaches 20 will be the first time in his career.

I agree with that. All other thigs being equal, I would take Joe Johnson for the #6 pick. But all things are not equal, the biggest being Johnson's contract.

Re: Brian Wheeler is HORRIBLE

should be targeting josh smith. :MARIS61:

Re: Brian Wheeler is HORRIBLE

yeah, trading for an aging, declining SG is a good idea.

you need to trade for stars in the league if you want to compete. or draft top 3. role players come last.

Re: Brian Wheeler is HORRIBLE

I'd do both picks for Josh smith and Joe Johnson but not for just Joe johnson. If he wasn't on the worst contract in the entirity of the NBA I wouldn't mind it but for all the bitching about other players (Iggy/Granger) this is the real move that makes us a team that will not wow in the playoffs and will never suck enough for a top 10 picks.

Re: Brian Wheeler is HORRIBLE

yeah, only a 6x all star. he is too expensive but if somehow we can get another top player and him, it doesn't matter.

Look at his advanced stats. He has been overrated since he left Phoenix.

Brian Wheeler is a friend of this forum and reads our threads and posts fairly often. I'm going to change the title of this thread a little.

and Joe Johnson is an aging, declining star, who hasn't lead his teams to shit.

Re: Brian Wheeler is HORRIBLE

yeah I really wouldn't do it without someone like Deron Williams coming in or something and having JJ as a 3rd option.

Re: Brian Wheeler is HORRIBLE

Come on, you're taking his comment out of context. I was listening to him on SBRadio when he said that. He wasn't saying that was a move they should make but that is the kind of player that could be available if you're looking for an experienced vet at the SG position. They even noted that he's getting paid way too much. Unless he's said it again at a different time then when I was listening.

change it to

"Brian Wheeler has lost a TON of weight and looks incredibly awesome. But I disagree with his assessment RE: Picks for Joe Johnson"

At least let me pick out the new title.

'Brian Wheeler has a John Nash moment'

Joe Johnson is going to be 31

Joe Johnson had a PER of 18.4

Joe Johnson avg win share for his career is .037 (.100 is the league average)

Two lottery picks for that?

lotto picks are historically likely to be worse than that.

His career playoff (advanced) stats speak loud and clear:

13.9 PER | 111 DRtg | 1.9 WS

I did not hear what wheels said, but if his point is some teams may be looking to rebuild and would be willing to dump one of their prime time player with a big contract to rebuild . . . well, I agree, that is a situation the Blazers can take advantage of.
