Fuck off. Cronin blew up a roster with a top 10 player at his peak performance and got a return for that top 10 player. Who is to say Olshey or any other GM wouldn't be able to successfully maneuver such a scenario? Also, I don't like Cronin. He's a fucking liar and he blows smoke and for some reason he's endearing to people. Give me Olshey every day in terms of personality. I hate this BS reverence for someone like Cronin who alienated one of my favorite players of all-time in any sport.
This could be so many people

This is what "Trader Bob" Whitsitt got for Clyde Drexler, after waiting until February 14th to make the trade:

The Houston Rockets acquire Clyde Drexler and Tracy Murray from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for:

Otis Thorpe,
Marcelo Nicola,
and a first-round draft pick (which became Randolph Childress).

I’m wondering when Nicola will come over. #fingerscrossed

In all honesty, who actually hated Joe? He landed in a tough ass position and needed time to dig himself and the club out. Why would a person with common sense who knows how the league actually works hate this dude without giving him ample time to turn things around. Or maybe people on here were freaking out too soon without giving the dude a chance too shine….. imagine that. If you tossed hate his way in the past without really stepping back and taking a look at the situation properly, today you aren’t allowed to celebrate.

No different than the clowns on here who in a game thread blast Dame for his shot selection in the first quarter, then pump him up when he hits the game winner. Go somewhere else.

You answered your own question.

Why the fuck would I grade Cronin higher because of how it affects Miami? I don't give a fuck about Miami. It's meaningless bullshit to me. Giving Cronin a ton of credit for getting back a return on Dame isn't something I am going to do. He didn't DO ANYTHING to create the value that DAME created.

Are you HCP's burner account to prove his point?!

This will be fun to visit when the constant injuries kick in.

Huge fan of the off season btw

Well, as to injuries, I am hoping we trade Timelord (only really bad injury concern), Brogdon and (not that he's injured but) Grant. I'm also in the trade Simons camp. I want to acquire young forwards, and barring that, more picks.

Holy shit! WTAF?! It was Olshey who screwed the pooch, not Cronin! Cronin traded for Grant when we would have preferred picks. Cronin re-signed Grant (mere minutes before Dame made his demand) and traded for GPII, both moves that make zero sense if he was trying to tear down the team.

It was Olshey who shit the bed, Cronin has been an absolute beast other than the Roco/Norm trade and even that looks more reasonable by the day, and was almost certainly a tax dodge that Jody and the Vulcans pushed him into. Man, Cronin got us a screaming deal for Lillard that gets better by the day, this despite unrelenting pressure from Dame, Goodwin, the Miami FO and media.

What a ludicrous take, and blaming Cronin while liking "Olshey's personality" do you work in the used car sales business da fuq?!

Anyone who knows the sport realizes Dame is too old to lead a team to a ring. It don't happen except for the GOATs. Dame needed to partner up with a better player. Now he has a shot.

I still think it was kinda lame how he kept saying he was trying to build around Dame when anyone watching could see that he was rebuilding. But the actual moves he's made have been pretty good.
I think he was trying and hoping to build around Dame.

If a trade would have been available that brought us another Grant or better level player I think Cronin would have done it.

But once we got the 3rd pick and Scoot dropped to us it was going to be tough, especially with everyone knowing Dame was ready to ask out.

False. You’re right, no one really actually “hated” Cronin. But you’re wrong to think someone like me can’t celebrate a day like this. Heat fans are on Pat’s head for the results of this offseason. It’s all about what have you done for me lately, and Joe hadn’t done shit.

If Cronin comes out with all of this after a Dame deal and stinks it up for the next 2 years, I will have every right to both criticize him for it and still celebrate the Dame deal.

With all due respect, this was a stupid point.
Cronin has been doing well the whole time he's been here, as far as I'm concerned. Expecting anything more was unreasonable, considering the circumstances.

Olshey and Dame's agent caused all of that. Cronin did what was necessary. Unfortunately nothing was available to get what Dame wanted with what we had to offer.

That's Olshey and Dame's agent's fault, not Cronin's.

I think Cronin is at a minimum an above average GM in Portland history, but right now I personally have him tied for second with Whittsit, and behind the architect of the Drexler-Porter-Williams-Kersey-Duckworth team whose name escapes me.

He's always had the credit (and he followed it up by building The Only Good Kings Team Ever) but I remember seeing a fairly recent post that gave a lot of credit to the guy before him.
That's what I thought too, but I couldn't recall his name. That's who I was thinking of.

Stu Inman? Jon Spoelstra? I guess they both had a lot to do with it... but Petrie did as well. Glickman was the Pres...

Not sure if Brogdon gets traded today. My sources said at the moment he's working the phones with the Saudis and a couple of other Middle Eastern countries trying to trade them sand.

Go unwrap a muffin or something, we need to trade brogdon

*Edit* didn't scroll enough to see others made the same joke.

Tip of the hat to you fellas
I almost made a joke too, but every time I wrote it out it sounded like telling a woman to do housework. I went with being silent as to not be misconstrued, as crandc has been one of favorites here for a decade at least and they already have to deal with enough bullshit on a day to day basis.

There were two. Bucky Buckwater and Geoff Petrie. And both were better than Whitsitt, who had an unlimited budget and who still exceeded it.
