Portland has always had pimps.

This is an excellent read on the history of crime in Portland. 5 stars!

Gentleman, I hate to correct you but you are full of shit. To find the cesspool described in this article 60 years ago, you would find readily in Tijuana, not in Oregon.

PS. They made a movie of that story many years ago. 80 some years ago, maybe but it seem kind of contrived. Astoria in the 30s and earlier was another matter.
Prior to WWII that place was indeed an old time world seaport built out on piers in the river for miles. All kind a shit going on there.

Pimps, in the burbs of Ptd and all across the US, have existed for decades.

Catching and punishing them is what separates US from Mexico.

They have prisons there. The thing that's different is, we use to go get our guys out every so often. These day we just leave them to rot.
See Sergeant Andrew Tahmooressi

They have prisons in Mexico, but they aren't putting pimps in there.

hah, Barton (the DA) was one of my homies in HS.

He also imposed a compensatory fine of $150,000 – the same amount he fined former Stars manager Steven Toth. Kohl said the men's conduct deserved a large compensatory fine because a business had profited at the expense of a 13-year-old.

It doesn't really say how much/if any of that money goes to the girl. I would hope all of it does, but wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if I found out none of it does. Moral obligation isn't enough to drive most people now a days.
