It is a massive circlejerk, but they have some good points now and then. But yes, it can get tiring.

Very tiring, i think the way these people act are why people don't like atheists. that and us not believing in god of course, lol.

The Atheism vs. God debate is so old, mainly because it's focus is besides the point.

The fact is, whether you are ignorant to it or not, their is indeed a Fifth Dimension, an undefined by science force acting on the physical world. Arguing over what to call it, and trashing people for their beliefs of what it is/where it comes from, instead of actually searching to understand it and how it works is a feeble thing to do no matter what side of the coin you fall on.

They just need Jesus

Exactly, nobody fucks with him.

You crack me up!

I love this one!

I never thought this would actually happen to me. I'm a waitress at a pretty casual restaurant, and I was wearing a small Darwin Fish pin. (throwaway just in case)

The thing I don't like about some atheists is that they can be aggressive towards people who believe in God, and they can be demeaning, and patronizing. It's no better than the attitude that some Christians have. I don't know why people can't just live and let live.

Cause atheists are fucking assholes!!! ;)

I can be aggressive towards people who believe silly things, because I would like them to have their eyes opened to reality. It is not at all the same as when Christians are aggressive and demeaning because I don't believe their silly things.

When people have nonsensical beliefs for no reason, there's nothing wrong with trying to interject some reason, logic, and critical thinking.

People always try to equate them. But they are most definitely different.

But there are a lot of younger, new atheists, who might even be "closeted" on that site. Some of them are angry, justifiably so, at the world for lying to them their whole life. I don't blame them, I felt the same way.

What are these young atheists being lied to about? What does that have to do with atheism?

Sorry Vanilla. but that's exactly the same thing, whether you can see it or not. When you try to force your opinion on someone, you are doing exactly the same thing as a Christian that is trying to force their beliefs. And you're not going to change them. It doesn't work that way. What pisses me off about some atheists is that they equate being religious to being naive, stupid, or somehow of lesser intelligence. I fail to see how that's better than telling someone that they're going to hell for not sharing the same values or beliefs.

And really, why do you care what they believe? I get angry with Christians when they try to force their beliefs on others, or harm others because of their beliefs, but not all Christians are like that. Some are just nice people, who believe in a higher power, and live their lives just like anyone else. They aren't hurting anyone.

And no matter how much reason, logic, or critical thinking you use, you can't prove without a doubt that there isn't a god or something outside the realm of what we know.

Repped.

I never said anything about forcing any opinions on anyone. So no, it's not the same thing at all. And while religion and intelligence aren't incompatible, religion certainly hinders intelligence. How you can equate that to telling someone they're going to hell is beyond me.

You listed exactly why I care.

No shit.

I don't think he's going to understand. I've made this point for years on these boards. Belief that something doesn't exist is still a belief based on faith.

People like me, though, aren't afraid to say that we just don't know enough to prove or disprove such things.

No shit.

There are some extremely brilliant minds that are still Christians. Your statement is seriously flawed

You listed exactly why I care.

There are extremists in all walks of life. Generally speaking, the 80-20 (or even 90-10) rule applies.

In that same vein.....what was that Dionne Warwick crooned? (Hmmm.....can a woman croon?)

When you give someone your opinion, unsolicited, on why they are wrong about believing in God or being a Christian, you are forcing your opinion on them. Period. You said you, "would like them to have their eyes opened to reality" and that they have "nonsensical beliefs for no reason." That is extremely demeaning. Telling someone that their belief is nonsensical, that they have no reason to believe the way they do, and that they need to have their eyes opened to reality is no different than walking up to someone and telling them that their way of life will send them to hell. Either way, you're being judgmental towards another human being, and you are telling them the way that they want to live their life is wrong.

You listed exactly why I care.

Not all Christians are like that though. You said that you can be aggressive towards people because they believe silly things. You didn't specifically say Christians that are bigoted or hostile.

So if you can't prove without a doubt that God exists, why do you think it's silly or that they need to have their eyes opened?

Darn, just typed up a big post and miss-clicked it into oblivion. So a shorter post.

I'm never aggressive, but sometimes assertive. The ones I am assertive with are only the ones who want policy based on religion. I feel that is highly detrimental to society. Schools and governments need to base policy on science in order to have a the fundamental base for a flourishing society in today's world.

Most people including religious people recognize the importance of science and feel that religion and science can coexist. I'm cool with that, and when dealing with people of hat mindset, I'm happy to forgo talk of atheism and instead talk about my Blazers, History, the tv show Justified or any other common ground we may have.

My deleted post was much better.

How is that great when Christians believe God gave us free will? Just proves Atheists have no fucking clue what a Christian is all about.

so when the holocaust happens, and God didn't intervene, he just didn't care? Or was that God's plan?
