I'm working on a big project with a colleague who's Black. I've worked with on many other deals and we're almost like friends. We talk politics, religion, the weather, pretty much the full gamut.

Anyway, I need a document from him and I was just about to e-mail him saying, "Hey, D....I need that white paper on the logistics you had been promising to send me."

Something along those lines.

Then, I got to thinking, is "white paper" even a term used anymore? Shoot, when I was in the corporate world, it was bandied about virtually ever day.

What say any of you? I swear I'm gonna need a thesaurus or cliff's notes on what can and cannot be said in these very strange times we live in.

Thanks in advance

The person to talk to about this would be your black "almost friend" but in my view the color of paper cannot be a racist term...it's just a description of a piece of paper....same as shirt collars

Next week, "Hey guys, I have a serious question, can I still call Betty White, White? Thanks in advance."

Yet another example that you're full of it. I'm now understanding what others are saying. Thanks for the tip.

And if someone says the term white paper is racist I would tell them they don't understand what racism is.

Where's @dviss1 when you need him?!

Look, probably 85-90% of us in here are privileged white males. However, if we're married, we're emasculated, as well. Or so our tv sitcoms, and such tell us. So, if we know what's good for us, we'll bend over, take our proverbial beatings, then straighten up and fly right. That's what we've got. End of story.

WTF are you talking about? Trying to end decades of systemic racism is not bending over and taking it.

And concerning white privilege, it might help to look at it this way, instead of looking at it as something being taken away from you, instead we should look to extend this "privilege" to all members of society regardless of race and gender. People aren't asking for whites to have less rights, they want equal rights for all.

I was being facetious. Same thing for the emasculated remark. One thing's for sure. I'm certainly not apologizing for who I am, nor what someone - ANYONE - wants to label me.

I swear to Baba O'Riley, this is seriously a cheesy sitcom, right?

I'm certainly not apologizing for who I am,
So, you have NO RESPONSIBILITY! I've heard that somewhere before.......nobody asked you anywhere in this thread to apologize for who you are dude....I've got a good idea where your fear of that stems from but it's covered in the second week of my life coaching course...until then, you're on your own!

I locked this thread.
Theres a million ways you can find out whats racist or not if you’re struggling. Trying to make a joke out of it at this point is extremely counter productive.
Sly or someone else can unlock it if they want.

How about just ask him for the paper on the logistics he has been promising to send you.
