$5,300 a month is pretty good to play basketball. In the CBA, the team takes care of your travel and living expenses completely.

Fields was in a serious car wreck that ruined his playing career. Doesn't change the fact that he was better than Garnett in HS. What exactly was your point?

Nah, KG's always been a trash-talking punk b!tch. Think's he's Gary Payton, Jr. Don't get me wrong, it seems to work for him. But he's not an "enforcer" like Oakley or Salley or HoGrant. He's a smack-talker. And bringing up "hate him b/c he's a winner" is laughable. He's been like that for almost 10 years.

Look at how he acted last year in the POR/BOS game...dude hadn't won anything yet. But there he was, barking and getting in people's faces. Lamar Odom does the same thing.

I agree he's always acted the same way, but this year and last there are more ppl (not just in the Blazers forums) talking about it and how much they hate it etc, etc when before it was more respected/ less criticized because he was a loser trying hard to win.

It's all about perception.

I see nothing wrong with what he does because it works at times and it's not like he's the only shit talker in the league either. He's also able to back up his shit talking as he's one of the top 10 players of this decade.

I think you see more complaints not out of jealousy, but primarily because he is on TV all the time, so the more casual fans are getting exposed to it as well, but most fans who have seen him throughout the years know he has always been this way, and have complained about it. Just gets more publicized as he gets better, so more people are exposed to it.

mmm possibly, all I ever saw the times he was on tv was an intense player who was a tad overly dramatic who couldn't or wouldn't deliver when the game was on the line.
which works fine in Boston because Paul or Ray are more than willing to take that shot.

Then how come no one had a problem with him while he played in Minnesota? In 2004 when he won MVP nobody called him trash talking bitch, they called him a great player. But then KG goes to Boston, wins a championship, and now he's an instigator and a bully. Because people hate the winner.

KG was a great player than and he still is now - it does not change the fact that he is an instigator and a bully - the two are not mutually exclusive.

Well, in Boston they are always in the headlines, always on sportscenter, always on national TV including 4 series in the playoffs, etc... So its probably more apparent. He was still a trash talker in Minnesota, but he wasn't called out as much as he is now for sure.

You didn't ask me in 2004. I submit that my answer would be the same as today.

I don't hate Ray Allen, b/c he's been classy since Milwaukee. He, too, would qualify as just about the same career path as KG. So you can be a winner without being a trash-talking instigating b!tch. Garnett just chose not to go down that path. His choice, and it worked for him. But I'm not anointing him Saint Kevin b/c he moved to ESPN's backyard.

I think people felt too sorry for him at Minnesota so they let it slide more.

Who cares? If you care, then it works for him.

If you ignore it and play serious bball, then he becomes a loudmouth fool who lost the game.

Either way, he's still a top 5 player today.

The good thing, in a year we won't talk about KG or the Celts since they will be irrelevant just like they were for the past twenty+ years.

I have faith that Joel will put KG in his place if need be. For those who dont know, Joel worked with a boxing trainer to stay in shape a few offseasons ago. I think even Blake, who has mixed it up with some mixed martial arts guys in the offseason, could give KG a beat down.

nobody on the blazers is "afraid" of KG. if KG thinks so, he can start shit, but you know he only will with sergio or blake. He's a big pussy. Rondo is starting to have beef too, fuck him as well. Batum could whoop all of them at once. like getting jumped into a gang, but instead you kick all the gangsters asses and then steal all thier beer money. and get drunk.

I agree with everything you said up to the concluding sentence... it only sort of follows. Fans don't hate players on losing teams that their club usually beats. They attain a level of satisfaction seeing the trash talking superstar hanging his head in defeat. But put that same guy on a great team where he's dropping the same F bombs but on Sunday morning national coverage and trash talking his way off the court in victory, and it's a different story. Of course he's still a great player (top 20 guy of my 30+ years of watching hoops), but it's a perceived bush league me me me act thats winning out.

I really don't mind trash talkers so much as I've found that they're usually a bit insecure trying to phyche themselves up. When I'm playing, if the guy I'm going against is chirping I take it as a sign of weakness... my focus sharpens. As much as I admire KG as a player, I've criticized him many times for getting too emotional early on in games and tightening up down the stretch. I find it's usually the calm and collected guys (like Pierce and Allen) who come through in the biggest situations.
