Zags took something that was shared with us about his personal life and he used it to attack MM. He did it to provoke him. He's done something similar to me in the past. He's been warned about it before.

I didn't suspend Zags because I didn't think what he posted was as bad. Both of you are making good arguments that I should have.
 
Maybe we should ask BF if she thinks MM should be suspended. :dunno:

The irony here is that MM was suspended for a post where he was actually right:

It's odd that this new 2013 poster dishes more insults out than anyone on this forum, but one insult thrown at "her" and a long-time poster is suspended for 3 days. That's injustice.

To be 100% clear, I should've added this: I don't think you can suspend one and not the other as the circumstances for "banishment" are almost mirror reflections of each other. Both have been warned numerous times both publicly and privately, both attacked posters, and Zags (whether you think the attack was "less offensive" or not) attacked a poster who could not defend themselves from his words. He knew this. Zags is not an idiot nor is MM. They are both aware of the "rules". To pile on, Zags attacked the poster shortly after being reminded "not to aggravate Mediocre Man", yet consciously did it anyways.

In summary, ban both or ban neither is what I was getting at. If Mediocre Man hadn't already been suspended, I'd be leaning towards "ban neither" just because its a message board and people need to take it a little less seriously and gain some self-control and use the features presented to them, such as ignore.

I agree that this was a fucked up thing to post, that's why I deleted it and asked Zags not to post crap like that. MM and the mods are all saying that Zag's post was a direct attack on his family. Last night I didn't read it as that. I read it as a backhanded insult to MM, that Zags was questioning if MM really had black foster kids. I read it as Zags was calling MM a liar, I didn't read it as him insulting MM's family. In the heat of arguments people have been called liars before and that doesn't result in them being banned, only their comments being deleted or edited.

In my opinion calling a woman a whore is worse than calling someone a liar. That said I'm not interested in creating some list of words that will get you deleted or edited and some words that will get you suspended and or banned. I suspended MM because he knows posting that is not acceptable. He points out all the time in threads when someone posts a personal insult and the mods miss it and/or don't do anything about it. He posted that to provoke a reaction from a member on this forum and instead he got a reaction from a mod.

I'm explaining all of this because moderating this forum is never black and white. Most of the time we're making it up as we go along. Also I'm taking the time to explain what I do and why I do it because sometimes I get it wrong. My intentions aren't to pick on someone or play favorites, my intentions are to make this community a fun place to post at.

One mod does and he just has sour grapes because I outed him but whatever. 2 mods sounds better though. Of course the mediocre one wants me banned. He's trying to deflect attention.
 
As for my comment are you really trying to ban me for calling BS on another one of MM's tall tales? Everything is racial with him. What better way to not act like a racist then say he adopted a bunch of black teenagers with funny names.

MM was not right for what he posted. How do you figure? Actually your post just made the strongest argument for Zags to have been suspended. Calling someone a liar for saying that they are a woman is just as bad as saying someone is a liar for saying that had black foster kids.

The fact the new 2013 poster is modded differently because the poster is allegedly a female, which is exactly what Natebishop said as well.

No one wants to ban you. At worst all we're talking about is a suspension.

Mainly this is more about how people want this forum moderated and what behavior will be tolerated going forward.
 
There's really only one thing that I want enforced around here. If you're permanently banned, that's it. You can't come back under another name, and if you're found out, you're gone on that name as well. Tired of "permanently" banning people only to tolerate them under a different user name.

The new poster is not being moderated differently. When we have more serious problems with a poster I and/or other mods talk to them via PM first which is what I've been doing with BF, just like I have done with MM, Zags, Mixum/Carlito and OdenIsGod in the past. If there continues to be problems then other measures are taken.

That's not the point Sly. If MM had called me an asshole, or called Mags an asshole, you would have just edited his post and that would have been it.

He called BF a whore and you rushed in and suspended him for three days. You defended her differently than you would have defended any of the male posters on this forum.

You're right. This will be the 3rd time now in this thread that I've said IMO calling a woman a whore is worse than calling someone an asshole or liar. I'll own that. That doesn't mean I'm favoring her. Hell, she was giving a bad time for editing her posts last night.

I know it's not intentional. I think we, as men, are conditioned to react differently when women are called whores or ****s or some other such abrasive insult. There are words that are simply not used unless you really want to make a point, and those words make us cringe when they are used around women. Conversely, we're pretty much numb to guys calling other guys assholes.

MM said what he did because he knew it was directed at a poster that has been throwing around insults in every other post the past week or so. Maybe he thought the poster could "take it like a man"?

MM was clearly provoked.

Exactly! A permanent ban should be permanent. Reminds me of when Roy Tarpley received a lifetime ban from the NBA and was back playing for the Mavs three years later.

I don't agree. I think context matters. If you call Zags a fa88ot I'm going to edit or delete the post. If you call Kingspeed a fa88ot I'll be inclined to suspend that person. I don't think it was just by random that MM used the word whore to her. He could have used asshole or douche or... but he used whore. A word that I don't recall him ever using to insult other members. He specifically used that word to provoke a reaction out of her.
