I'm looking to sell my old Iphone 5. Today I brought it into the Apple Store to have the screen fixed. When I did that, they told me that my account had to be deactivated in Icloud for this phone. So I logged in and did that. I picked it up and now I'm trying to erase all my content from my phone so that I can sell it. However it wants me to log in using my Apple ID. When I log in using my Apple ID, It gives me an error that says

verification failed there was an error connecting to icloud

Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this?

Thanks

Hard Reset the phone.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I select erase all content from phone and then it asks me for my apple id log in. When I put it in. It gives me that error. I even tried doing it through itunes, it then again wants me to go into iCloud and turn off find my iPhone. When I do that, I again get the same error.

Thinking it has to do with what they had me do today or its due to the phone being off of cell network.

I hope you have a sync'd backup on your computer of everything that was in Icloud.....

Turn off iCloud completely
Depending on whether you want to stop using iCloud on all or only some devices, do one or more of the following:

On your iOS device: Go to Settings > iCloud, then at the bottom of the screen, tap Sign Out (Delete Account in iOS 7 and earlier).

Note: If you sign out of iCloud (or delete your iCloud account), iCloud no longer backs up your iOS data. You can still back up your device in iTunes. For more information, open iTunes, then choose iTunes > Help.
On your Mac: Open iCloud preferences, then click Sign Out.

If your Mac has OS X v10.7.5 and you turn off iCloud, your calendar information and reminders aren’t stored locally in iCal. If you want to retain your calendar and reminder information, you need to back it up before turning off iCloud. For more information, see the Apple Support article Calendar & reminder data removed from Calendar and Reminders or iCal when disabling iCloud Calendar.

On your Windows computer: Open iCloud for Windows, then click Sign out.

Note: If you turned on automatic download of music, app, or book purchases (in iTunes preferences or in Settings on your iOS device), your iTunes purchases are still downloaded to your devices.
Set up iCloud on your devices

So I go into settings into icloud, scroll to bottom, select sign out and the delete account, it then asks me for my apple id and passworld which leads to same error.

You don't delete the account.

Hard reset. Then it should be factory fresh.

When your phone resets you set it up as a new phone.

I don't know why you're trying to sign into iCloud

To do the reset that's what it wants.

Try this. Older solution from last year. Just google the error message that's what I usually do

http://alliosnews.com/2013/09/20513/It is being widely reported that some users are experiencing errors with iCloud after upgrading to iOS 7. The issue has to do with the iCloud Terms & Conditions which were changed with the new version of iOS. After upgrading, users are prompted to accept the new iCloud Terms & Conditions but when they attempt to do so they get a “Unable to connect to server” error. This then disables iCloud on their device.

iCloud site from an iPhone
If you have experienced this error here is how to get around the error.

On your iPhone or iPad go to http://www.icloud.com. There you will see the options to setup iCloud on your device, Install Find My iPhone and Install Find My Friends.
Tap the Install Find My Friends – even if you already have it installed. This will then take you to the App Store where you can either install Find My Friends or open it if you already have it installed.
You will be prompted for your iCloud password. Enter it then you will see a dialog box saying that the iCloud Terms & Conditions have changed and you need to accept them. Tap on View to view the iCloud Terms & Conditions then tap Agree at the bottom of the page.
This should solve the problem for you and iCloud will immediately begin working on all of your devices once again.

It's probably asking you to log into iCloud to verify it's OK to erase the phone. It's pretty drastic, and you don't want anyone who picks up the phone to be able to do it.

Logging out of iCloud on the iPhone doesn't hurt your iCloud information. You'll be able to login on a new iPhone, your computer, on the WWW in the browser, etc., still.

You da man Pres and you Denny with your input. Thanks for taking the time on this.

Issue resolved

If it's on the cloud the NSA has every byte of it.

Maybe if you ask them nicely? :dunno:

You've got some cloud stuck in your phone. Just run it through the dishwasher and that should take care of it.

Sell it to the Apple Store. They'll take care of it. I got $260 for mine.

I asked them at the store if they would buy it. They told me only in a trade in. Don't need to trade it. The new one has been bought.
