Why did you pick rebuild, retool or contend?

You rebuild. We won't contend for sometime without assets to trade. We would need to be in asset acquiring mode. Batum would also likely be dealt if LA leaves.

Rebuild; you have some young asset and an offensive system that makes them look good. You either make sure they're good, or feature them in a potential trade.

If Lamarcus Bolts I say you play heavy for Greg Monroe. I know he's not an equal replacement, but he's young enough to be a long term fit with Dame.

If Lamarcus bolts maybe it's time the Blazers think about building around a different position (Dame). The Blazers have been building around there the PF for years now and it hasn't worked. Therefore Monroe might be the perfect fit.

Contend... Because that's a lot of cap space... And a pretty nic batum expiring contract that might be able to land yourself a decent player. I wouldn't be surprised if we heard a nic batum for Roy hibbert scenario...

Contend!

Olshey says this is the summer the franchise has been building towards. He stated he has plans for every contingency. A rebuild would be a huge failure. Reminds me a little of the Raef LeFrantz Expiring Contract. KP talked about it to the press and us fans during the Meet and Greet. The RLEC was this wonderful thing that could get us a good player. It's magical rune that can be used in trades!

And it could have been used in a trade, had the right trade been available. People (not necessarily you, Sly) thought that the fact we didn't use it in a trade meant we failed, and that's simply not true. All that money falling off our books turned out to have more value to us than any player that was available to us at the time.

Stupid damn people...

Then KP should have said that from the beginning. He really oversold the RLEC.

Retool, we already have a pillar so that would make it easier. With all the cap space we'd have, we could sign some pretty good players.

I voted rebuild because the current team is built around Aldridge. It wouldn't make much sense to try and retool without the centerpiece of the offense gone.

I would try and build around Dame, using CJ and Leonard as the pieces to build around them. Use whomever is left to find picks, young players and role players

I think that's a retool, a rebuild is something that takes 3+ years.

I would say that is a rebuild. Retool would be replacing a player with a better player. I don't think CJ is better than Matthews or Leonard is better than Lopez. Rebuilding around the 3 core pieces I just explained would make us take a step back, IMO.

Yeah, with the cap space we would have, we could bring in some pretty good players like Monroe.

So you're saying Dame is untouchable. :ghoti:

For the next 5 years...similar to LMA in 2009, except if LMA had been a 2x All-Star. Like a completely healthy Roy, if you will.

I voted rebuild; because if LaMarcus leaves this team won't be able to compete for a title next season.

Contend means trying to win now, and possibly looking at sacrificing long term assets in a draft picks or players to have a better roster the next year or two. That wouldn't make sense if we were outside title contention. The difference between retool and rebuild is what we expect from the next 1-2 years. A retool aims to have quality players now whereas a rebuild sacrifices current year wins. Management may define it differently for marketing reasons.

There is a benefit to the Blazers being in the lottery the next two years; the Blazers would keep both protected 1st round picks and then the draft pick owed in the Afflalo trade becomes a 2nd round pick. It would give the team a chance to play CJ, Meyers, Crabbe, this years draft pick minutes without worrying about losing a few wins. The team could use their cap space for younger players on cap friendly contracts. It would mean exploring trades for Nic Batum to get a young talent in return. We could even make a run to resign him in the summer but if we are rebuilding there is no reason to have him next season. It would mean Lopez and Wes very likely sign with other teams as they would be in their 30's by the time the other Blazer players are ready for a playoff run.

I like how Dviss1 called it asset acquiring mode. We would hope that one of CJ, Meyers, draft pick, free agent or trade acquisition can become a solid borderline all star player to pair with Damian. We would try to accumulate as many other assets; draft picks and young talent as possible. Once we've got those first two allstars keep an ear open to other teams disgruntled stars. Eventually look to cash in all those assets for the final 3rd star in a trade. Its not going to be easy but its the most likely avenue to eventually build a team that can contend. Hopefully it would just be two seasons in the lottery followed by a decade of contending.
