What's funny to me is all the he's garbage lets waive / trade him talk is exactly what was being said about Freeland last year
Yep, and in Meyer's case we are CONSTANTLY told he'll never get it, the things he lacks can't be taught/learned, either you have them or you don't. And, Joel Freeland, at five years older just proved that wrong. Players can learn to improve their defensive positioning and technique. They can become better defenders and shot blockers. They can go from totally clueless to a legitimate part of the rotation. Freeland is just the latest example, but big men, especially when they don't have a lot of experience playing against NBA caliber athletes, take time to develop. We knew that about Leonard when he was drafted, but the vast majority of the posters here seem to have forgotten that.
I'm not saying Leonard will suddenly get it and blossom overnight. In fact, I'm saying the opposite. The kid needs more time to learn the game, but the things he lacks CAN be learned. Will he ever make that step? Who knows, there is no guarantee he will, but at 21, there is also no guarantee he won't. If we want to find out, we'll just have to be a little more patient.
