So if Oden averages this (24min, 10pts, 7.5rebs, 1.0blks, 1.0ast, 1.5to, fg 55%, ft 65%) next season, would you consider him a bust? This would pretty much assumes him being healthy but will still have the foul problems.
I would say he would be a bust, because I just don't see a guy playing at that level and all of the sudden improves to being a perennial all-star level player. And let's face it, if Oden isn't at least a 2-3 all-star player, many would consider him a bust. This doesn't mean he wouldn't be a serviceable player or that we need to "get rid" of him. But he would be a bust, imo.
I think Oden has A LOT of work to do this summer. I want him to come into training camp lean (around 265lbs). He's also got to work on his footwork. Right now, Oden is just slow footed. I also am hoping to see he regain some of his athleticism back.
He's none of the above ... he's still pretty much an unknown quantity. If he stays healthy and can learn to cut the fouls down then I'd say he'll eventually be at least a 15/10/2 guy, which may never live up the ridiculous "next Bill Russell" hype, but plenty good enough for this team.
What's funny is that most people expected him to be a 15/10/2 player this season, including myself. Now we're just hoping he can get there someday. I think it's no big secret that he's been a disappointment, I just wish people would stop making excuses for him.

Yes. Hell, I expected better numbers from him this year.
Overall, this season has been a disappointment for GO. I don't see any tangible progress from the start of the year to now.
He actually looked A LOT better at the start of the year. The 20/15 game against Golden State and a few other double/doubles after that and then *bam* he reverts to a player that hurts the team more than he helps.
He progressively got worse as the season went along.
Sorry, but it's the end of the year and I have to vent. I hope I regret this thread next year when Oden is tearing up the league. I really do.Seriously? How many of these fucking threads do we need?
Could be, and I'm actually hoping this is the case. A crappy Oden because of injury is better than a healthy crappy Oden, I guess.
the funny thing is that oden actually produced at the same rate as a 15/10/2 player, most people just don't realize it because he wasn't on the court enough with his foul trouble. What's funny is that most people expected him to be a 15/10/2 player this season, including myself. lots of people called yao a bust.Who called Yao a bust? In his 2nd year he was an 18 and 9 player with 2 blocks. I'd take that from Oden knowing what we know now.
I don't think Oden fooled us. I think the injury pretty much turned Oden into a different (for the worse) kind of player. He is no longer the gazelle running the floor, no longer the freak athlete big man who can simply overwhelm his opponents with his sheer athleticism. He's now a slow, lumbering big man who has to use his strength to overpower his opponent.
is it his fault that he's foul prone? partially. oden can't do anything about some of the ridiculous calls made against him. next season he won't be a rookie anymore. i bet that's enough to eliminate a foul a game just from the refs calling him differently solely because he isn't a rookie.Oden would have been a 15/10/2 player this season if he hadn't been so foul-prone. Is it his fault that he's foul-prone? Yes. But fouls being the only thing holding him back from the season people envisioned from him is hardly horrible or bust-like.
