If Portland Can Only Re-sign One of Enes or Zach

Enes, For Sure. Zack hasn't played in months. In the NBA injury list, this guy would be the first candidate. That's his luck.

Zach is the only guy with any real attitude on the team. He's not afraid to mix it up. This team desperately needs that.

my sister had a little dog, a chihauhau-terrier mix that acted it was the toughest dog on the block...right up until it got killed by a doberman

Enes at 28 with 10 years under his belt for 8 coaches....he's my guy....ideally I'd like to see Zach next to him for defense....Enes is not money driven...he's not foul prone...Zach is very foul prone, injury prone and coming off his rookie deal will want a paycheck...I'd trade him at the deadline now in a heartbeat for a proven vet who doesn't need a big contract...I'm fine with Nurk, Giles and Enes as our bigs for now

I’d keep Kanter and Zach(cheap) and Giles. I’d trade Nurk. If that’s all possible.

Skal Labissiere is out of the NBA and statistically has been superior to Zach.

This! Enes all day! Zach is trade bait.

This is peak Collins physical - and its a dumpster fire.

at least Enes is still young, we know his lane - he knows his lane - and honestly, we need him more.

I think there are three centers on this team that we need to worry about and if we're playing games with nonsensical ultimatums then I think we can do a sports version of the classic Fuck, Marry, Kill. Don't get too crazy this game is called Trade, Keep, Cut.

Nurk is a very talented player with a lot of skills. He's quick for his size but he's not fast enough to play at the all star level he aspires to. I think despite the fact that his physical makeup makes him somewhat obsolete, especially defensively for this team, he still has good trade value. If a team has a roster where they have players 1-4 and 6-8 that can absolutely fly around the court but they need an offensively talented defensive space eater... Nurk is their man. Also, I'm sick and fucking tired of waiting for the guy to figure out that he just needs to finish strong around the hoop. So I'd Trade Nurk.

If I had to keep just one of these guys, it's a pretty easy call. I think Zach still has upside and is going to have to play for his QO or take a lower yearly salary on a longer term deal. I just don't see some team offering him more than 7.3M per season and I think he'll bet on himself. So I'd Keep Zach.

I appreciate what Enes has done for us when Nurk has broken a bone. I think his game has a lot of holes in it. I actually think he'd just good at screening, finishing around the hole and he's a great rebounder but everything else in his game is below mediocre. So I'd Cut Enes.

I realize waiving a player is just stupid so in this game you'd just cut ties with the guy. In Enes case just let him walk and in the case of Zach or Nurk you'd trade them for a second rounder or something.

Kanter and Zach will both be cheap (unless Olshey does something stupid). If Zach passes his physical and looks well on the way to recover, I'm fine with having him back on a bargain contract.

I'm fine with bringing both back if they are priced at what they are worth. Both guys are good at running the pick and roll with Dame, which is our best player's best play, a very significant factor. Every year we seem to run out of bigs. These guys are serviceable backups, and Zach still has some upside.

I think the bigger question is whether we continue to think of Nurk as a cornerstone of the franchise. He wasn't looking great this year, and christ does the guy get injured a lot.

You bring up very good points. No one choice is the best answer. I would argue Collins is not good in the PnR game as he's a walking offensive foul when asked to set a screen. But he has grit... as does Kanter in some ways. My question mark is Nurk. He came back very out of shape this year (shades of his time in Denver). I'm willing to give him a pass with losing his Grandma, but did that take his eye off the mark for months after the end of our season? Everyone loves Nurk and he's a great locker room guy, but has anyone heard how his rehab is going? Is he working on cardio in his down time? Thus far, I see Kanter as our most solid choice - I'd be curious to hear from those close to the team how Kanter is perceived on and off the court?

He has bum knees...something we need no part of....I'd rather have Wenyen Gabriels than Skal

To me Nurk is a guy who needs fans to get pumped up....he's struggling with the empty arenas more than many other players...other players thrive in the practice gym and can't translate it to actual games...they are doing better without the fans in some cases...Nurk has never returned to an NBA crowd in a year and a half...plus lost family members to covid...he'll be fine...I just think the NBA covid season works against him in a lot of ways....he's an emotional guy...he's said so many times this season is just weird without fans....I think it's gotten in his head a bit

For sure the crowd gives some players that extra gear - Nurk as you pointed out is a great example of this. I'm hoping he finds a way to get and stay self-motivated and healthy as I don't want to see the "injured" label stick (His leg snap was a freak accident and I wouldn't use that against him here - but other injuries yes).

I played live music in clubs for 17 years when I was young and from experience can tell you...it's hard to put on a great show for two guys at a bar watching a tv set.....give me a full house with booze flowing and we'll break a sweat in no time...I asked Wes Mathews once about the player who was better than we thought in the practice room...his answer was Victor Claver...said he couldn't miss a shot in the gym....then he couldn't make one in a game.....Vic probably would have loved this season without fans because he seemed to have a bit of stage fright in a crowd....Nurk is the opposite of that in my view

It wasn't so much a call for us to reacquire him as it was a point about how little Collins has contributed in his career.
