If San Antonio is our biggest competition for LA

I can't hate that man even if he steals away Aldridge.

Pops is the best coach to ever coach the game. Yes, Duncan is the best PF to ever play the game, but they didn't have the star power like Lakers, NY, or whomever in the large markets to give their coaches a leg up. His championships are all valid and earned. Gotta respect that

Here's how you can fuck SAS. Offer Leonard max for 3 years, with a player option for the third year. I think Leonard would consider that because the cap will increase drastically. If he signs, that would fuck SAS because they couldn't lock up Leonard for more than 2 years.

For us, we could offer an additional 20% in the third year and sign, waits another year for mega max, or free up enough cap to give him mega max.

A team other than the Spurs can only offer at least a 3 year deal with no options for those 3. Can have an option for year 4.

Same deal here as with Jimmy Butler.

Do the NBA rules allow for having 2 Leonards on a roster? Someone look into that....

so CHI did give him the max qualifier?

The only way we get Kawhi is if the Spurs are not willing to give him a max deal. And if the rumors are true...they are. I guess it is possible it could be a smoke screen so no one else ties up money on him, but my gut is it is true.

So we may need to turn our attention to another SF. ( Tobias Harris?)

There's a wrinkle in the Leonard Max QO possibility. If the Spurs are looking to free up cap space to sign LMA outright or take back a lopsided trade, making the Max QO offer would add roughly $9M to Leonard's cap hold; and same if he signs a Max contract.

So what are you saying? What is the most most likely move by them in regards to Kawhi?

So wouldn't that mean they wouldn't have the same advantage as Chicago?

I've not seen news that they've made the max QO offer. If they want cap space to sign a max FA, they can't do the max QO. At least that's how I figure it.

I think they'd do the max QO and then worry about cap space by trading guys for cap space.

It means someone could offer him any sort of deal that's legit under the CBA and the Spurs would have 3 days to match.

If Leonard wants to stay, he'll sign with the Spurs. His cap hold is roughly $7M until he signs.

You said in a previous thread, that because Chicago signed the Max qualifying offer, Chicago can offer one more year and force other teams to min 3 year offers. It would also give Chicago the ability to offer more per year than any other team.

Did I get that wrong?

That's right. The Bulls are over the cap, so they aren't thinking about how much cap room they can get.

I know we keep asking the same questions over and over, but.............
Can Portland offer Kawhi and LMA max deals at the same time if they renounce everyone else?

I think so.

I dont see why not, they have 40M in cap space

So if SAS didn't sign max QO, they don't have the same advantages right?

Like 3 years, with player option for the third year max?

2 years option after 1.

I misspoke, the Spurs would have 15 days to match. That's a long time for a cap hold for the team making the offer, too.

Even better! That's a good risk to take IMO. We would still have $10 mil to use for another free agent, while still keeping the cap hold of LMA

There's no guarantee Leonard signs any offer from another team. He can get a MAX contract from the Spurs. The Spurs can wait until using all their cap space and whatnot and sign him even if they're over the cap (Bird Rights).

And it doesn't hurt to try right? If he says no, he says no. We can move on to other players

And let's not forget how "waiting it out" helped Houston last summer.
