Assume we have the same starting 5.
Assume Mo opts in or is re-signed.
Who do you have coming off the bench, AND how happy about it are you?

My answer:
Robinson, CJ, Mo.
Feeling: Content (I'm hoping for better, but with another year of xp, I think it'll be a lot better)

I'm still pissed at Barton for the multiple jump-pass-TOs in an elimination game, and I don't think he deserves a spot, even though he has improved his 3.

I think CJ will be a lot better with a full training camp and an established role.

I'm looking for Robinson to improve a lot. I think he can do it, too.

Without making a change, coach will have to figure out how to get Mo to play like Good Mo.

Love Dorrell Wright and Victor Claver, I just don't want them in my rotation.

4 Guard rotation with Barton/Lillard starting the 2nd quarter, trying to push the pace.
T-Rob first man off the bench for lopez.
Batum gets more minutes. Lots more. He needs to lead the league in minutes. with lots of coaches in his ear telling him to shoot.
I want to see Crabbe, I hear he can shoot. But is he as terrible at defense as CJ is?
Need help @ the 5.

Freeland, Trob, Barton, Mo

I'm playing the bench more minutes next year, but far less dual PG lineups. Hope CJ can beat out Mo, otherwise with his crappy defense I only see him playing when we have an injury.

If there is no changes this offseason, I will go back in time to '85 and get a job at Radio Shack selling Tandy Computers.

Interesting that posters not smart enough to figure out the purpose of this exercise decide to comment anyway.

First off, man would I be pissed if that happened.

You'd have to pretty much mimic this year, with Mo, Wright, Robinson, Joel

Mo
Barton
Robinson
Freeland

At least at first. Possibly CJ is his play has improved.

If there is no offseason changes then Olshey should be fired.

This is true. However, I'd be hoping for significant development from CJ and Crabbe to become competent backups. I'd like the bench to be Thrill/CJ/Crabby/TDevil/Limey. No mo Mo.

I'd like to see us acquire a big body PF/C type to replace Meyers (who I want gone) as 3rd string Pf/C. I like Kevin Seraphin from the Wiz who is an expiring. He would likely come pretty cheap (less money than Meyers) as he did not get many minutes this yr with Nene and Gortat there,I believe he is a UFA and 24 yrs old.

And probably has a connection with Batum FWIW

Although a fun topic to discuss in May, it is way too early. Last year at this time, very few would have had Joel as part of the rotation. But he worked hard over the summer and got a lot better.

Who is going to get dramatically better this year? Lot of possibilities. CJ, Will, TRob, Crabbe, Leonard........
Hard to say right now.

I wish we could keep Claver, but the guy wants to play, so I assume he will beg to be moved.

Robinson, Barton, CJ...and Mo [sigh].
The only two players I like are Robinson and Barton, but we have to play CJ and Mo so that they have trade value at the deadline.

I have become a huge Barton fan. I think if given the pt to develop he can be a tremendous 6th man type. I also like Crabb's all around game. I hate to say this, but CJ is my odd man out.

My guards off the bench are Mo, Will and Crabbe.

Trob & Freeland as it stands now up front.

When asked, didn't some of our starters single out Crabbe as the guy who would most surprise people if they saw how he plays in practice? Sounds like he's got game, but just hasn't had a chance to acclimate to NBA game-time minutes yet.
I would prefer to keep him and trade CJ - mostly because I don't think Crabbe has any trade value other than being used to match salary, where I think CJ still has a fair bit of value. Crabbe also has the length to play the position. CJ will never be a starter with the Blazers, and may not even be the bench player we need him to be.

So far I haven't seen anything from Crabbe that indicates he's going to stick. He better have an amazing summer league or he's going to have much the same role he had last season.

I agree that Crabbe has shown nothing, since he has not played. Mop up minutes mean nothing. CJ was given a little more PT and showed flashes that he can contribute. But again the verdict is still out.

I don't think the Summer League will tell us much either. Especially if they play CJ at PG. Unfortunately we will not have our answer until next fall.

It will be interesting to see what an offeason will do for CJ McCollum, Will Barton and Thomas Robinson. Hope all three play in summer league. I think they all qualify. But if all three improve so does the bench. And I would say all three of them along with Mo would be in the rotation. I think both CJ and Thomas Robinson need to make significant gains in the offseason. We need a lot more from both next year production wise. And I think they can.

He seems to have more desire to play defense and a better looking shot than CJ.

This, but I'm still nervous about Barton.

If they think they will get dramatic improvement from either Barton, , CJ or Crabbe then I would change my vote from pursuing Stuckey to pursing Livingston. We need a true PG to play with those guys.

Kevin Seraphin isn't a 3rd string big. He can give quality minutes. But if you're going to go that rout might as well stay with the #11 pick in the 2012 draft.

Wish I could go to the previous forums and show you where I said Joel Freeland would have the jump he did. But alas. I don't know how.

Do people forget that we had a 54 win season and made the 2nd round in the playoffs while our backup PG lead these league in assists for a player off the bench with no other real bench player to pass to? And we gripe he isn't a good enough playmaker.

Mo always had a starter on the court to pass to. He also lead the league in turnovers and fouls off the bench with an 11 PER.

Mo had his contributions last season but there is nothing wrong with hoping the team can find better solutions for bench production in the year(s) ahead.

Exactly. Mo's play made me want to pull my hair out. But we'd have been sunk without him. I hope as I hope every year that we can improve the team. That includes getting a better defending, less ball pounding, better decision making Mo, if possible.
