Shitloads of peeps going to the emergency room because they smoked weed? For paranoia?

That’s unbelievable.

pot is not a danger to society in general anymore than soda pop or cigarettes...less so than those two items...my experience is that meth sends people to the hospital freaked out more than pot ever will....alcohol will send more people to the hospital including the person who drank in most cases...driving on a public road is one of the riskiest things humans do...some whacko cut me off on the hiway today weaving in and out of traffic like a bumble bee....20 miles down the road he was at the light two cars ahead of me..not worth the crazy driving to gain 15 yards in 20 miles ..speed kills...pot smokers don't drive like that

Another simple rule of thumb....if you have panic attacks or borderline fears don't partake in substances that can enhance those things. When in doubt.....leave it out

I see nothing in or about science that has to do with a persons belief system.
science is not about a belief system in my view...it's purely scientific method....when something is demonstrable to our human senses in general it's scientific....paranormal belief I would not consider scientific information. Chronic marijuana users that start using before the brain is fully formed apparently alter the shape of the brain a bit...I personally do not advocate for being a chronic user of something that is meant for medicinal or mild recreational use...some people abuse food..chronic eaters.....apparently tobacco over the years, alcohol and salt changed the shape of my systolic heart chamber....gave up those things and it's shrinking to a normal size now.
People need to know when to stop consuming period

I wonder if the States that have legalized pot, if their HS scores and grad rates have declined?
I always emphasized to students that grades and scores can give you a head start in academia or help you get a scholarship but education is about knowledge...how to acquire it and use it...you teach students to learn..they either do something with that or not. Many kids know they are going to work at the mill as soon as they finish HS....grades or test scores aren't keeping them from the mill job. Most people in general learn what they are interested in the most long after HS..or even college in many cases. There's no finite time limit on your path to knowledge and information...some figure it out young...others take decades to discover their path...

This is a real shame. One should be aware of their assets and aptitudes as early as possible. It is helpful as hell in earning living. to maximize you assets first, leave your weakness to be filled in later.

A man's got to know his limitations.

But I don't think a few years or decades of exploration is a bad thing. Maximizing wealth isn't everyone's prime directive.

The journey is the reward.

Yeah, it often is quite obvious.

In downtown Portland, it seem the dominant prime directive is dereliction.
lot of good people holding down jobs in downtown Portland...bums are all over the planet...from what I see they are also fallout from the search for booze....wake up with a tall malt liquor and you probably won't make the job interview

River, My buddy from Texas rode his Harley out here last spring and cruised around downtown and was blown away by the amount of young people standing around doing nothing. They looked like they cold be working if they wanted too and didn't seem down and out.

Maybe they were just gaping at a guy who obviously had nothing better to do than ride his motorcycle around town?

Tell your buddy to get a job and a haircut!

I live west of Eugene....there are homeless camps everywhere....here, the homeless I see are not so young, mostly middle aged men who seem to have a daily task of finding cigarette butts and getting enough cans to cash in for the homeless camp booze fund. Sure there are young lazy people all over the Pacific NW...San Francisco was filled with them in the 60s and 70s....young people go to Portland to party on the streets and play hippy until they get bored with that it seems to me. Eugene Oregon is number one in the nation for the ratio of homeless to the population...there are a lot of kids, tweekers, etc...mixed in but by and large I believe it's a middle aged male population...the new welfare is to apply for disability and live in a cardboard box...begging for a living because the 400 bucks a month they get doesn't last long. Local homeless guys in the small town I live near have been on the streets for 20 years at least...same guys...the camp hobo king was an engineer with a masters degree who went to prison for most of his younger years for domestic abuse stemming from his alcoholism...his name is Fred...he told me his story..your friend is correct...many don't want to work at all. A good friend of mine in Portland is a computer engineer and he claims many young people who appear to be on the streets and dress a bit unusually with the pink mohawks and piercings, ets…..he says many of those young people are actually software engineers who make a living with a laptop from home..and actually have money to spare
