If you had to sell high

Who would you part ways with? The undersized scoring machine McCollum or the jump shooting 7 footer, Meyers?

To me, its easy, McCollum. Guys who can score are a dime a dozen in the NBA. If he can revert to PG in like a Monte Ellis mold, you might have something there. Meyers is a 7 footer with a sweet stroke, who is piece by piece putting it together. He needs to watch some tape of McHale and hope to pick up some things. If he can put just a little foot work together and maybe become adequate at putting the ball on the floor, might be an unorthodox star in this league. Maybe a Mehmet Okur in his short lived prime?

Batum and CJ might be a really tempting package to lure away a guy we think can be part of a big 3. Jimmy Butler sure would look nice in Blazer uni as part of a S&T.

Meyers is definitely a keeper, and so is CJ in my book.

I'd like to see CJ as the back-up point guard going forward.
He's shown he can break down a defense off of the dribble - akin to a lot of attack/score first pg's these days.
Then see, during the off-season and next season, if he can develop a knack for distributing the ball to where it needs to be.

Let him learn on-the-job for a whole season.

I just don't see it. CJ is a SG....... keep him there. The only reason any of us want him as the back up Pg is because of his height. But his height is not hurting us when he plays against backup SG's. And it is only an issue against a handful of starting SG's.

Get a real PG to play the back up point and let CJ be a SG who can break down a defense off the dribble. The more ball handlers we have on the court the better IMO.

I had forgotten that we got Matthews to back up Roy, which immediately killed Roy's career. Then we got Afflalo to back up Matthews, which may have immediately killed Matthews' career. We Blazers fans are jinxed. I will never hire an assistant for myself again. Let's not trade for a SG as long as Afflalo is here. When he leaves without a replacement being in place, the chain will be broken and we can resume acquiring SGs.

Meyers. His defense is still very concerning to me and he doesn't do much well on offense except hit wide open shots other create for him. Its a valuable skill but once defenses adjust he can be shut out of the game. He has an extremely low usage rate.

CJ is underrated defensively but his skill is he can create for himself and others. Scoring guards like CJ are not a dime a dozen he had the most points off the bench in Blazers history. That was after their coach pointed out he was our most dangerous weapon the game before.

I'm excited about both players next season though.

It's entirely likely that CJ already had the best game(s) of his career - and I don't say that as a slight...he was pretty incredible in those last two games. But it's even more likely that Meyers only scratched the surface of what he's able to do. He grew up playing PG, so that gives him insight and ability that's RARE for a PF/C. He already knows, fundamentally, how to do things only guards/wings generally do - once he re-learns how to do those things with his 7' body he could be a tremendous talent, rather than just a spot shooter. In Game 5 we saw him pump-fake the 3 and then drive to the hoop. Granted, he lost the ball and kicked it out of bounds, but that's going to be part of his offense sooner rather than later. In addition, he's got a nice touch around the rim and showed some post moves - so I think it's already false to say he doesn't do much well on offense except hit wide open shots.
And if you are still very concerned about his defense you must not have watched the POR/MEM series. If you had you shouldn't be very concerned - he's come a LONG way this past season.
With another summer working on his game I'm expecting big things from him next season. I really hope we bring Kaman back - he seems to be invaluable as coach & mentor to Meyers.

Actually I want CJ to have an extended shot at the back-up point guard position because he has the best handles out of all of our players. Hopefully, combined with his ability to break down a defense off of the dribble, he can utilize that ball handling to distribute the ball.

I would trade CJ before Leonard

Meyers talent to me is harder to replace. CJ has talent is there but he has not shown two things. Consistency and health. He's a tweener and couldn't stay on the court his first two seasons. Meyers is younger, stronger and harder to replace. I don't see this as an issue though because I believe they'll both be back. Watch CJ's game 1 and 2 in Memphis and it was pretty ugly. I don't think Leonard had an ugly game in a long time.

I am a huge CJ fan and have been since before he was drafted. I would not put it past him that he could improve enough to win the back up point spot. But there is no way he has the best handles on the team right now. They are good for a SG but not for a PG. Two years in a row we have seen him struggle against pressure in summer league. Frazier for one has much better handles. And so does Dame. Of course that is expected since they both played PG full time in college.
