This part stood out to me:
As Brandon Roy said after the loss to the LeBrons, “We kind of waited a little bit and we kind of went back to our old ways. We didn’t play them as hard as we could.”
Therein lies the difference between Portland and the championship-level teams. The Blazers have yet to develop the swagger and grit that allows them to get in the face of their opponent night after night. They have yet to consistently demonstrate the attitude that says, “I’m taking your lunch money, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”....

On the surface, the Blazers are a solid defensive team; they are allowing 95.3 points a game, which ranks ninth in the league.
But thanks to basketball-reference.com, we can see that those numbers are a misnomer.
The Web site ranks teams by points allowed per possession, which provides more insight than the raw numbers. Because the Blazers play at the slowest pace in the league, averaging 86 possessions a game, their defense ranks 25th in terms of points per possession.
