.....then why are the Lakers the favorites to win it all?

My point is that Steve Blake is better than anyone the Lakers have at the PG position. And he held Brooks down for most of the game tonight. Brooks' last 8 points were scored when the game was already lost for them.

The Lakers have (arguably) the best player in the league over the last ten years and run far less isolation and have far more team movement than us. Figure that one out big guy.

Steve Blake's a shitty undersized SG, not a PG. He doesn't run sets, make passes to cutters, or lead the team on the break, how is he a PG?

Ding ding ding!

Aaron Brooks, all of 5'10" of him, is torching the Blazers.

When you're that quick and can shoot the way he can height isn't a factor.

realistically I like an undersized off the ball SG with good court vision (Stephen Curry or RUDY) next to Roy or a real PG with a shot good enough to succeed off the ball a little more than many. We need someone to push the tempo, reward movement, and guard 1's (by default).

I still think a Rudy/Roy/Batum 1/2/3 would be loads more effective than Blake at point. Rudy can do what Blake does, while making better entry passes, and pushing the pace much more effectively. Batum can guard superstar 1's (as he does now), and we'd have some nice size on the court.

I even wouldn't mind...Aaron Brooks, the question being can he succeed a little more off the ball and I'm not so sure he has that excellent of court vision, two things we need desperately.

Start Rudy and put Batum on Brooks.

Shamelessblazers Nash-to Portland rant starts in

3....2....1....

Seriously, I think Conley would be a good fit.

I like our team as is.

I'd just like to see Sergio and Jerryd in the mix as we're sooooooooooooo much better when we use all our weapons.

No way we'd be in the playoffs this year without them.

Bake it!

Fact is he can't really shoot that way.

He's usually around .400.

Streaks happen.

Brooks scored a bunch of quick points that we pretty much let him score at the end because we already had the game locked. For most of the game, though, Blake had Brooks locked down.

The guy who's killing us is Von Wafer.

The thread starter is shameless, Blake was absolutely ATROCIOUS tonight, and I'm talking about running the offense. It was so horrible to watch and there is absolutely no reason why Sergio didn't get any burn in the 2nd half. Blake was THAT bad. He needs to stop playing afraid and get aggressive instead of him solely depending on Roy to carry his weight.

the lakers have kobe, gasol, bynum, and odom and that's why they are one of the favorites(though i wouldn't call them the favor. my money would be on the actual best player and team in the league, the cavs).

blake isn't better than fisher. fisher is basically blake with better defense.

but the blazers don't need a top pg to win a championship(or get far in the playoffs). guys like jordan, lebron, wade, kobe, and yes roy make having a great pg not necessary.

why do you fear that? maybe because he looked lost out there tonight and when he did get open looks he put them off the side of the backboard? but he did have 14 asts. in one quarter so all is forgiven.

I'd rather get some good production in a playoff game than in a game vs an injury riddled Clippers team who was going to lose by 20+ anyways. That's just me though. Blake was terrible tonight and I really hope he steps up because he's supposed to be this team's veteran.

*sigh.

Why? Because it's unearned. For most of the game Blake did a decent job on Brooks. And he was the only other Blazer beside Roy and Aldridge that looked like they knew what they were doing.

4-8 for 10 points and 5 assists is not a bad statline.

That is worlds better than how he played in game 1. So I'm not aboard the Blake hater train.

Personally I think most of you need to mellow out.

Agreed. He had Brooks in check for most of the game. I think Brooks had like 2 pts in the first half.

Well if you take the last 27 seconds of the game away Brooks only has 12 points.

That may have been by design. Nate probably just let the guards get their points and contain the rest of the team. I don't think the Rockets can beat us when Yao only gets 11 pts.

Portland needs a PG who will

A. Penetrate
B. Run an offense with cutters
C. Run a fast break
D. Just sorta kinda stay in front of the other PG on defense

Steve Blake is a great guy who doesn't make a lot of mistakes. He is a good spot up shooter and a good FT shooter. he is not a PG however. At least a starting one.

Blake is a good PG, JUST NOT AGAINST THIS MATCHUP!!!! He's giving away to much speed and quick, we've seen this happen to Steve against Dallas too with the Berrara "SP" guy. We need to match that speed and quick, we are not, and given up 27 points to Houston a game at one position doesn't make sense. Against Denver, San Antonio, LA and NO, Blake is fine. This series is not built for Steve though!

Hell no. He isn't a PG at all. He won't pass and is selfish as hell. He wants too much money. Eveyrtime I watch him I feel so bad for Chicago because Salmons and Gordon are such ballhogs and Rose should have the ball in his hands.

Nate and Roy would rip him a new one in Portland.

Portland doesn't need a top-flight point guard. A solid defender who has a bit of scoring and passing skill is somewhat necessary.

I thought Blake was decent in game 2. But I'd rather have a better defender and/or someone who can actually facilitate the offense. It doesn't have to be a star player.

I've said it before, but I would love to find a Greg Anthony. Someone who plays lockdown defense, can hit a three, and makes good decisions.
