Was home last weekend and asked my 12 year old niece what kind of music the kids listened to these days because I'm old and out of touch.

She said Cardi B. I had heard of her but never heard a song. Just youtubed it....HOLY FUCKING SHIT

12 year olds nationwide apparently listen to this shit.

i know i am old. when i was 12, if it wasn't on the radio, i didn't hear it. the web/internet and omnipresent screen time accessibility for most kids is radically changing mores and values in our culture. nuff socially commentary, i didn't really like it as music, much less content.

That sounds like what a middle aged white mom would consider rap, when they're doing one of those "mom rap" videos.

In other words, wtf was that shit I just listened to?

It isn't a waste of time for anyone with young children though. They need to know what evil kids are up to these days. My sister in law is a teacher in the Washington. She says we have no idea what they're up to.

Thats why i said you wasted my time not anyones. :)

Nah i get ya. But its a microcosm of sooo many things that have been dumbed down/ less than before.

Acting is in the same situation because of special effects.

Movies generally suck more these days. Just fluff for tue moment, but nothing of substance. Just like todays music. Not just rap.

Ill take zepplin Ramble On over almost anything todays word puts out there.

And for rap? It was never better than when nwa split and ice cube and eazy e were going back and forth while dre and snoop was changing the world with the chronic. Soon after that rap began to decline and now you see what we have.

No hooks no lyrical wit. No smooth flow. No melodies or harmonies. It just sucks.

Public enemy is the only rap I listen to.

There is some good music still coming out these days. But, what these kids listen too these days, its hard to consider it music. They don't make music like they used too.

I would sit down with her and have a talk.

When I was 12 I was listening to Cathy's Clown, The Chain Gang, The Twist, Love Potion No. 9, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, Stand By Me, Run Around Sue, Only the Lonely and Do-Re-Mi from the Sound of Music.

I quickly got away from the music I knew when I was 12. Milli vanilli and Paula Abdul.

I heard Nirvana and everything changed.

Me too, but it wasn't Nirvana, it was AIC, Dirt. "Sickman, sick man, sickman...."

Then I stepped away from the radio and started paying attention to the NW regional music, and that's when I knew music would be the mainstay of happiness in my life.

I don't think I ever told this one.....

Cute girl I rode the bus with and I talked all the time. I really liked her. One day she was listening to her walkman and wanted me to listen too. Said it was a band called Alice In Chains.

I said PFFFTT! Sounds like a stupid chick band and NO THANKS.

She never talked to me again.

A year or two later I heard a song on Beavis and Butthead and was HOOKED.

It was Would by AIC.....second I saw the name I had a flashback to that day on the bus.

That's hilarious because I denied them for a few years too based on their name. Never saw them in concert in Seattle because of it. That's when I learned to never judge a band by their name.

From one married man to another, DO NOT tell this story to your wife.
Yes, please do share these stories with us, but, and I say this from the voice of experience, do not tell this story to your wife.

Already did. Told her we'd have never met if I wasn't so stupid. Also told her I am glad I was so stupid. Worked out.

Just the other day we were watching Godless. Mild SPOILER alert if you haven't seen it. Skinny white guy in 1880s is in love with this beautiful black girl.

They sneak off by a river and are about to shed their clothes and jump in when the girl's badass of a dad catches them.

Right as he does....I say FUUUUUCCCKK pretty loudly. My wife laughed her ass off.

She has a pretty good sense of humor.
