No idea who either of them are, but it sounds like they're the first to work out for the draft, so it's interesting.

Illinois juniors Mike Davis and Demetri McCamey will work out for the Portland Trail Blazers on May 7, according to Illinois assistant coach Jerrance Howard.

Davis and McCamey have until May 8 to withdraw from the draft to keep their college eligibility.

McCamey, a 6-foot-3 point guard, averaged 15.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.5 steals this past season. Davis, a 6-9 forward, averaged 10.7 points and 9.2 rebounds.

ESPN's NBA draft analysts have predicted that both could go as high as the second round but also go undrafted.

I'm actually glad that I don't care about our draft anymore.

It's nice to not have to feel like every draft pick needs to be the one "to save the franchise," huh?

I agree it's kind of nice not to be looking for the draft to save our ass anymore ... that said, I'm always intrigued by the process, because I'm always hopeful the team will luck out and get some hidden gem (especially when it comes late in the first or even in the second).

Fools Gold is not a Gem. :stirthepot:

I don't really mean that, I just wanted to beat someone else to it.

Funny to see so many folks poo poo the draft. You have to keep your talent incoming fresh. It is very important.

This is a deeper draft then last year for sure. And last year we passed on some nice players like Blair, Casspi, Beaubois and Jerebko.

That Demetri kid has decent stats. But he is a college kid.

So were Darren Collison, Ty Lawson, and Holiday. In fact, most NBA players were college kids at one point...

Yep. Let me know when the Blazers get to that point. :devilwink:

The interesting thing about this was brought up in Chad Ford's blog. Basically, the day for underclassmen to go back to college and retain eligibility is the 8th. The Blazers and L*kers are the only teams who are setting up workouts on the 7th, so that they can evaluate (and give feedback to) the college kids that may/should go back to school. Everyone else seems to think that "if they're going back to school anyway, we're not wasting the time working them out" and figure that if they stick around after the 8th, they'll work them out then.

Can't tell whether this is good PR by the Blazers, good "doing their homework" on late 2nd-round underclassmen, or good for karmic purposes. Maybe some of all three. But I like it that we're involved.
