Dress up is not the same as being trans, for fuck sake. Stop trying to trivialize.
I dressed as a ballerina for Halloween when I was five and can't dance a lick!

The right is pushing not only bigotry but misinformation. Some kid doesn't say I want to change gender and next day has surgery. They go through a whole process that includes determining if they are indeed trans or nonconforming, or just rebelling against gender roles. Or simply unhappy with their life.

What the crap I am seeing posted here boils down to is "hey, I know better than you people what's good for you. Because I am a cis straight male! So I must know better!"

"I'm sorry I antagonized you" ... literally in the next sentence goes back to antagonizing! I was trying to ask some questions and get to know your position better, you choose to (I guess by the use of the word antagonize) get mad. I'm sorry if you're angry and can never truly understand the trauma you've experienced but was trying to have a conversation.

The lengths that you jump to are amazing, never once have I said I know what's better. It was supposed to be a conversation but some of you seem incapable of that. I'm not a republican, I'm not a liberal, I like many sit in the middle and am just trying to learn more from personal experiences and decided to share some of my own, if that's too much for you, than that seems like a you problem and not a me problem.

If I am incapable of a conversation and I am the problem ... why bother to reply? I had hoped by explaining that children know their gender early on and that applies to trans as well as cis children you might actually consider that people don't transition on a whim. Or because it's a fad for god's sake.

The rights of my people to life, liberty, and the pursuit of motherfucking happiness are not a god damned "conversation." Jesus FUCKING Christ. Why do I have to be calm and reasonable around the rights of my people? Why do you get to have me fucking sing and dance for you and act all patient and kind and generous while you consider your position about the rights of my people to safety and identity? Answer me that before you continue the "conversation" with me.

It's just the truth, maybe a little unvarnished, but those are my genuine feelings on the matter. You're in a position of authority over kids who trust you, and I hope nobody kills themselves because of decisions you make as an authority over them. That's reasonable, right? I have the same expectations of politicians and CEOs and cops and that's why I'm angry all the fucking time hahaha! Because nobody seems to understand anymore that when you have authority over someone--whether it's financial, social, parental, legal, or whatever--you are responsible for them.

So yeah, cards on the table: I personally don't trust you, because you think it's reasonable that I convince you to respect your students enough prioritize their safety and not to out them to their parents, so all I have left is blind hope. And hey, if you decide to out some kid to their parents because I got angry at you, and they kill themselves because of it, you can come onto the forum and tell me, and I'll have the blood on my hands too.

I'm understand if I am too angry for you, but I can't relax and take it easy anymore... unlike cis straight white people, I don't get to take time off from all this politicking. Apparently my life is a conversation where I have to smile and convince people who are actually safe that I'm worthy of human rights. I'm so fucking tired. I'm exhausted. I'm on the verge of tears 24/7 because every word out of my mouth can and will be used again not just me but everyone like me. And yeah, I genuinely regret losing my cool, but like... look around you, man! It's fucking hell out there for trans people, especially in Texas, but even in Oregon where if I step too far outside of downtown I'm getting the stink-eye from lifted F-350s with Trump flags flying from the bed. We don't get to turn off that fear because we're always a target.

So yeah, I'm genuinely sorry for antagonizing you, because I genuinely worry my words will nudge you towards making some trans kid unsafe enough to die, either by their own hand or their parents'. But I will never stop being angry, just so insanely, unendingly angry about having to apologize like this out of fear.

The worst thing you can do for you and your people is deny discussion to others. Discussion is how we learn. If you cut off the conversation, how do you expect anyone to become more educated to not show or behave in a bigoted manner?

Most of us, and i believe even the OP would like genuine discussion to help you and yours. Not the opposite. You are a lctually snapping at hands that want to help you. And to many of us, thats frustrating.
You are crying out for equality. Some dont understand what that means and want to discuss it. Better understand it.
Wanting discussion doesnt mean one is against.
Just like i can be against abortion but never vote for abortion laws.
One can understand that a woman should hsve control of hee own body but still be against abortion.
Im against abortion but ill never vote pro life.

To have mutual understanding requires mutual discussion.

You are so close to getting it. So absolutely fucking close. Because, yes! If you're not actually a woman or a Floridian or a trans person or black, then you don't know enough to hold a conversation with a woman, a Floridian, a trans person, or a black person about subjects like: women's rights, racism, trans rights, the nuances of being a citizen of Florida. People who are those things have more knowledge than you, and their voices should be prioritized because they're the fucking experts.

In short: if you're not trans and you're talking about trans rights, you should shut up and listen when a trans person is speaking. This is the thing we learn about not being racist or sexist or homophobic or transphobic, and it's a lesson that takes ages to grapple with, and something you never finish learning: you gotta know when to shut up and listen to an expert.

It's difficult to let go of that assumed privilege that you can just talk about anything and people respect you because you're in power over everyone else and you're totally benevolent about it but these other people have to know that my opinion about their thing is as important as their opinion. IT IS NOT AS IMPORTANT. Your opinion will, by virtue of being external to the subject, be ignorant of the details.

The school of hard knocks teaches us that nothing beats lived experience. Well stop coming into my school to tell me you read exactly one (1) book and so you know more than me and that I should listen to you now.

Freedom of speech isn't protection from being called on your bullshit.

And like, go back through the thread and see where I was patient, I did try to have a conversation, and OP especially said "well that's nice but nope". Like come on! I'm tired of being told "meet me in the middle" by people who keep taking steps backwards after I do! I'm tired of people pulling the football away because they decided it wasn't my day to kick it.

The long and short is you are generalizing everyone wanting to discuss as being ignorant and so you want to deny them the discussion.
Reality is those who want to help will move on if the ones they are trying to help push back on them.
Nobody gets to cry for help then deny the help because they have questions.
Thats just ridiculous.
Not everyone straight person is your enemy. Not everyone who has questions is your enemy.

And sometimes only listening doesnt answer questions. Its all relative to the clarity of the speaker. So even after listening some may be confused and have questions. Are they not allowed to ask?

Look, we aren't Trans. We don't know first hand what Trans people have to go through. We read about it. We hear about it. We don't know how it feels. In that respect we are ignorant as shit.

The best we can do is listen and learn. To be allies. I don't blame Beagle for getting loud and defensive about this. This is her life and the lives of many others in her position at stake.

I get you and others here are upset to be equated in ways with those against trans people. Understand why instead of being defensive. The right's agenda is against trans and other members of the LGBTQ community. Your political affiliation touches that even if you don't agree with those parts of the agenda.
