Yeah. that's the downtown area. don't know about the resorts and shit. It was honestly a little dead, they had your "senior frogs" type places where there's a party on the 2nd story of some building, a hard rock cafe, and all the usual tourist traps. Try to find some real mexican food and shit though, just google ahead of time, you'll be glad you did. I can't stand hotel/resort food, especially in fucking Mexico. Street tacos and little shitty places is where its at.

Don't buy anything there. Clothes, jewelry, etc, its all a rip off. Just spend money on booze, food and walk around.

Its not that its an unsafe place, you should be fine in general. Just don't walk in shitty dark alleys at 3am (I'e done these things though and its been fine). You can go out at night, be in a cab, just be in a group or with other people. Don't carry large amounts of cash, etc. Pretty common sense stuff. I've been in dangerous parts of mexico during the drug wars, some shady parts of mexico city and in acapulco (I know two people who were killed but they were mexicans). I wouldn't worry about it. Just carry cash inside your shoe along side your front pocket or something, have a second stash, just mind your surroundings.

Having lived in Lake Oswego, Milwaukie, Portland and La Pine I can say for a fact La pine has far less of a meth problem than anywhere I have lived. It really has no drug/crime/violence problems to speak of at all when compared to anywhere on the wet side of Oregon.

I don't think PV is necessarily "unsafe". I just think there are locals that are happy to take advantage of tourists at all costs, and if you put yourself in a vulnerable position, a local is likely going to try to take advantage. Happens in a lot of heavy-tourist destinations, but I think the behaviors are a bit more extreme in some (like PV). Now Tijuana, today, I wouldn't go near there as a whitey.

I might suggest Lonely Planets website for travel journals that are updated daily. It's great! They'll describe the scams and pickpockets and tell you where not to go for valid reasons. Another tip I learned in all my overseas travels throughout the years is not looking like you're made of money when you get off the tourist path. Dress like a local, walk with a purpose and direction. Don't carry much cash or a passport...get a photo copy of any document before you leave. I traveled throughout Mexico and Central America without incident but that was a long time ago. Lonely Planet or Globe Trekker have the best websites for preparing for a trip. Another rule of thumb...don't accept food or drink from strangers ever, anywhere! You might wake up two days later with a headache and not much else.

Well, talk about an ignorant post. I didn't say anything about wanting to stay on the resort. I don't really care for Mexico. I've been to TJ before. Only gringo in our group. If I hadn't been with a group of Hispanics, it was pretty clear I'd have left bloodied and beaten, ended up in jail, or I wouldn't have been leaving at all.

After TJ, we drove down to Baja. That was 9 years ago, though. I had a lot of fun. I just don't care to repeat that. I saw a lot of crazy shit. We would pass "checkpoints" with a rope sitting on two cones running across the street. Dudes with guns stopping and checking us out before we continued on. Totally different world. Shit was bad then, and only gets worse.

I've been to Cabo, too. Aside from the sun and beach, I really didn't care for it. I can get the same thing in Florida and Hawaii (though Hawaii is way more expensive).

The resorts are kinds lame. I never really said anything about wanting to go spend my time chilling in some resort the entire time in Mexico. But yeah, go ahead and put me in that box.

As for trannies....not my thing. If it's yours', I ain't judging. More power to you.
