In a different thread HCP asked why teams didn't double team Lillard & CJ more

I honestly believe Lillard was the most important player to his team's success this season and it's not close...he put this team on his back from the first game tip off...the champs are just getting all the love since they overshadowed MJ's Bulls...there's no shock there

Well, we all know it's just really a "best player award"

If you take that angle, you might as well just call his teammates crap. That's not the purpose of the MVP award.

nah...you missed my point...most valuable player doesn't mean most valuable player surrounded by shitty teams...that's a stretch. I just think Lillard's impact on this roster was more valuable to the win column than any other player

No, I got your point loud and clear. You're calling his teammates crap if you think the best player on a mediocre team is the league MVP. That means the team would be Philly-level atrocious without him. So, even if you're correct, it would be an extremely insulting award.

I guess that is one way to look at. The other might be that he is saying Dame did a great job turning a mediocre team into a real good team that had a great year because of his leadership and MVP qualities.

Honestly, I think most teams don't have the personnel to trap/double the way that LAC and GSW have done in the playoffs. We have faced Paul/Jordan and Klay/Draymond. Those are four fairly exceptional defenders. People wonder why Dame is having a rough postseason and that's the reason why. He has been facing exceptional defense in both rounds.

no, I'm not calling them crap...I'm calling Lillard the most valuable player to his teams success in the league..I like our roster top to bottom. Check out my preseason projections of 43 wins....but reality is, Lillard is not surrounded by even one allstar let alone two..my definition of MVP

This isn't a real good team. It's a slightly above average team that has benefited from major injuries to the playoff opponents.

That's a team MVP, not a league MVP.

I think the Blazers are a team in the league so I don't get the distinction....I think Lillard had the biggest impact on his team...I get that you don't and that's fine

The distinction is that the Blazers aren't one of the most important/valuable/impactful teams in the league this year, so Dame would have to be clearly better than the best players on the best teams, which he obviously isn't to all but the biggest of homers.

Defense wins Championships

Unless you're the Clippers.

you're welcome to your value system....it's not an award for the best team..it's for the guy who did the most for his team and you can call me a fan anytime...doesn't offend me at all ..I think he accomplished more given his circumstances

Does anyone with a vote in the matter share your definition?

you'd have to ask them

In other words, no. :)

Another thing to consider, CJ was arguably just as valuable to the team this year as Dame. That really weakens the case for the best player on a slightly above average team being the MVP.

when you're 8th in the MVP race, apparently you get votes...but keep bangin' that drum...and I'm not making a case out of it..it's just my opinion and for the record...I like CJ
