In case the Lakers fire Luke Walton this summer, would you want him as head coach in Portland?

When/if Stotts leaves, I would like the team to try a different direction. A really good Xs and Os coach who isn't afraid to adapt on the fly. Where we get that person, I will leave to the brighter posters.

I'd want to try to pluck Tony Bennett from Virginia.

LeBron MAKES coaches.

Mike Brown coach of the year?

Lebron is the coach...he just wants some to stand around and pretend to be the coach

I believe Stotts is the only coach to have gotten at least one coach of the month award in each of the last six seasons.

Grass is always greener.

Brad Stevens is getting hammered in Boston saying he doesn't use his talent correctly.
Irving/Tatum/Hayward/Horford/Rozier/Brown/Morris/Baynes/Smart.
Only one below average offensive player in that rotation. Rest are average, above average, or great on that end.

The rap on Stevens is that he maximizes average to above average, but doesn’t know how to handle a superstar (read: ego). He took teenage Tatum, 2nd year Brown and a few vets to ECF game 7. Enter Kyrie. Boom. I submit that he’d even do well with a low key stud like George or Davis. Or Dame.

I would fly to PDX just so I could rent a car to drive Stevens from there to his new digs if he came here.

I respect Lebron a lot for some of the things he’s done on and off the court and Ive always thought he was a good leader, but I think he’s been kind of terrible this year. Between he and his agent trying to trade the whole team, how he’s constantly throwing his team under the bus, it seems like every interview its, “them, they, those guys”, it took no time at all early in the season for the rumors to start coming out how he didnt want Luke there. He went to LA for a lot of none basketball reasons and thats perfectly fine its his life, but he has not been good for that basketball team and the young guys they had.
He clearly has no intention of trying to mentor them and teach them basketball, he just wants another superstar to come help him try to compete with the west. I get it his championship window is closing he doesnt have time to see if Brandon Ingram (or any of those guys) figure it out.
Anyways super long winded, but Lebron has become a guy who seems to not want coached. Mike Brown was literally like a decade ago. He didnt really like Spo, Blatt took them to finals and now cant get a job in the NBA, Luke Waltons gonna be gone. Tyronne Lue was basically just “being Lebrons friend” and being paid like an NBA HC.
I like that Lebron speaks his mind, that he’s building schools, trying to do what he believes is good, but besides Mike Brown he hasnt really done much for making a coaches career, and this year I think he’s been a poor leader for the young Laker players.

The Lakers lack of success is squarely on Magic. Signing Rondo/Lance/McGee was flat out horrible because he put zero shooting around LeBron.

Has anyone really been able to control Irving? Other than his time with LeBron in Cleveland what has he done? 7 full seasons in the league and only 3 playoff appearances.

I honestly think I could change your mind on Stotts by discussing some coaching things in person with you. You know I put enough thought into it that it isn't simply a "grass is greener" disposition.

It's not clear why rich paul has any clout other than being LBJ s friend. I do think he's just a puppet for LBJ, just a hypothesis...

Apparently he's a lame duck in L.A.

I'm interested to read what you guys think about him.
Obviously, he's hiring sounds possible because it fits the Trail-Blazers lore to some extent.

Have you watched him coach? will he be an upgrade over Terry? Is the Lakers debacle his fault? did he really deserve credit for the Whoriors success?

Head Coach? No. Assistant Coach? Yes.

I don't like Stotts and I've made it clear I believe he should've been fired after the Pelican series.
But most of the messages on this board about Stotts are the exact same thing other fans say about their teams coach.
There is nothing to change my mind about as that is a fact. All you have to do is go read @Jade Falcon 's otherside thread to see the exact same things in s2 game threads happen in other teams game threads.
The point with grass is always greener is.
Any coach no matter who it is, will have people complaining about rotations, adjustments, offense and pretty much anything else they can think of.
For awhile there I was actually posting these things in 'the otherside thread'. But then I realized it doesn't matter if I post that because people like @BrianFromWA will quote me spew some random shit, but aren't able to see the similarities between the comments I quoted and posted. And the comments in the s2 game threads.
Instead they'll come up with 'oh I don't think Stevens would have the same issues in Portland as he does in Boston.'
Similar to when people said. 'Oh I don't think Boogie will have the same issues in Portland as he does in Sac because Lillard'.
Well Boogie isn't NOT getting techs in GSW. He's just grown up a bit, has nothing to do with x player is keeping him in line.
This stuff is just nonsense I mean Torey, you remember how this forum is when Portland is playing .500 basketball. Celtics are 4-6 in their last 10. If Portland was that way holy shit this forum would be spammed. With how garbage Stotts is, how garbage Lillard is, how Lillard & CJ can't win together, how Portland should've tanked for zion. Blah blah blah.

Reminds me of when after Portland fired Sarge. Many Portland fans believed they promoted the next Spoelstra in Canales.
All because espn announcers talked about how Spoelstra worked his way up. They believed Canales was just a few years behind Spoelstra. That in 2-3 years he'd be just as good if not better than Spoelstra.
(no this is not my opinion of spoelstra, I'm just using it as an example.)

It would be a bad move to fire Terry for Luke. The Blazer players would be pissed if this happened.
It would make no sense to them and I am not sure they would respect him, similar to the Laker vets now.
Luke is getting roasted right now in LA.

I believe Luke is a good up and coming coach, but he was not ready to take over the Lakers. Is he now?
He was OK last year with a bunch of young players, but you could just tell it would not work with LBJ.
IMO he needs to go back and be an assistant and wait his turn again.

If Terry left on his own, then maybe you go after Luke but I don't see much of a difference between he and Luke.
Did I say Luke is getting completely roasted in LA?
He’s okay to take over the lakers, that got all Fd up when they got Lebron though. Tough when star player is a better coach than coach.

He could have led the young bloods to the playoffs in a few years though.

Exactly....he's Okay
Nothing more at this point in time.
