Dude rocked his first big deal. Makes Pritchard pale in comparison.

Way to go, Cho!

What happened to "let it bake!" ?

KP made some really, really good deals.

I don't think it's necessary to prop up Cho by putting down KP, personally... this deal is a good one, and I'm excited about it. And I hope it's a sign of future Cho moves :)

I agree. KP was great with the draft. I'm not sure who did the draft this past summer though because that one sucked.

Good point. I liked KP a lot too. I am just stoked that Cho pulled off a coup, but no more bashing KP from me. Thanks for the reality check.

But In Cho I Trust now (or too)

Fair enough! Go, Blazers. :D

I wasn't too happy about the Bayless trade, but now looking back, it helped us get Wallace. Though we could've gotten Crash with our own 2011 pick if we didn't have the Hornets' pick.

All in all, I'm liking Cho so far as the GM. But KP was awesome.

Anyone who would turn down this deal is a moron.

But you have to give Cho credit for pulling the trigger.

You have to give him credit for not giving up any more than he did. From reports, which who knows are true, they also wanted Batum maybe instead of Dante and it looks like Cho waited to the last min and didn't give in.

I think mgb makes a great point, and there's also that Cho COULD have (presumably) used those assets in a less-good deal, and that probably would have pushed Wallace out of our reach (at least in terms of keeping the rest of the team...)

This assumes that Jordan came to Cho with the deal. If Cho approached Jordan and created the proposal, then you have to give Cho credit for unearthing a no-brainer deal.

I mean, yes...if you find a classic car in great condition for $500, it's a no-brainer to buy it. But it's impressive to find that great deal. If it were easy to find, others would have and already bought it.

These are my thoughts as well. I really liked KP, but I'm impressed by this deal by Cho and am encouraged that we may have another good GM.

The final agreement was reached at 11:53, seven minutes before the deadline.

That was one kick ass game of chicken. The Bobcats were the ones to walk away last night, so presumably they were the ones that came back and blinked.

As they used to say at NASA, "You, sir, are one steely-eyed missle man."

For the record, you win a battle before it's even fought. All that analysis, all the projected scenarios are what won us this deal. Cho even talked about in the press conference about knowing the value of the assets. It's a hard thing to do, because it's not what the asset is worth, but what others are willing to pay for it. And if you're willing to pay the most, you have to ask yourself why.

This wasn't a talent deal for Charlotte; this was a money deal. Dante is a cheap and effective player. Marks gets half his salary paid by the NBA. Joel will likely accept a buyout for less than he's owed for the rest of the year. Taking Wallace's deal means the Bobcats aren't going to be over the luxury tax in the coming years. I guarantee you there was a Bobcat revenue and expense spreadsheet in front of Cho.

When you know the position of your opponent as well as he or she does, you've already won.

reports were that Blazer management turned down their Batum for Wallace ideas last year so credit can go to KP for holding onto Blazer assets

I'm super phyched about adding Wallace for what they did. Cho, management & PA's deep pockets deserve credit for pulling this off but they're also the lucky beneficiaries of Charlotte's motivated seller position... it takes two to tango!

now just please please please :smiley-drzifige: can Portland just for once enter the playoffs relatively healthy? A top 7 of Camby LA Wallace Batum Wesley Rudy & Miller should be nasty

Jesus. Just what we need another cult of personality built up around the GM.

I don't think it's as big a deal when the GM doesn't try to be the High Priest and Grand Poo-bah of said cult. I think adoration of Cho from afar is ok...he's not the type to let it go to his head, it seems.

I think that Larry Miller has some compromising pictures of Jordan that make Charlie Sheen look sane. Hence, this lopsided trade, which begets Miller showing up leading off the presser grinning like the Cheshire Cat. ;)

Seems like a strawman. When did KP ever let anything go to his head?

Wojnarowski reported that he was arrogant. What more evidence is necessary?

If you couldn't see Pritchard's arrogance, you're blind. Through all that Oregonian worship, he never turned it down. Never said, cut it out. Just smiled and kept encouraging it. No humility. He loved having a personality cult. Look at how normal Cho is. Like a regular adult, he wants no part of that.

As for the rest of the thread, neither Pritchard nor Cho deserve much credit for their trades. None of those trades would have happened without Paul Allen taking on big salaries that the other owners shun.

Well we got Gerald Wallace. He has more plans as he got quoted in the oregonlive notes.
GM Rich Cho said Monday he hoped top finalize the addition of at least one more player to the roster Tuesday (hou), but did not offer details.

I trust him, and it won't be a flashy guy with a big name.

LOL! But your hero Whitsitt deserves a ton of credit!

Clearly Mitch Kupchak and Danny Ainge deserve no credit for the trades that led to the last three NBA champions, since those trades also would never have happened without their teams' owners taking on big salaries that the other owners shunned.

Can we wait to make the playoffs before we start celebrating cho?
