In praise of Rondo and Holiday

Honestly? I think they would've beaten us too. Who expected them to kick Utah's ass in game 1?
Yeah, my comment was actually in jest. The way we were playing going into the playoffs--and have played these first two games--it doesn't appear that there was a good matchup.

I've got to say they've impressed me. At the beginning of this season I would've said they were washed up. Rondo looked burned out in Dallas and that was a couple of years ago. He got good assist numbers in Sac but they sucked and his defense looked gone. Meanwhile Holiday has ALWAYS been injured. So where did this come from? Holiday in particular has scored any time he wants. He's just bullying our backcourt - it's like he's moving in slow motion and just saunters to the hoop for a layup.
Jrue is only about 27 and even Rondo is still not washed up at 32.

I just heard a report that Jrue has had some problems with both the health of himself and his wife which are now cleared up. This might explain why he's suddenly doing better.

New Orleans doesn't even care about their basketball team, which makes all this that much more infuriating. Our city lives and dies with the Blazers - the Pelicans play before a half empty arena most nights. They're not even #2 in that city - LSU football comes before the Pelicans.
They also have an NFL team, the Saints.

Jrue has been playing at an all-defense level all season - he's locking up Dame.
Dame has gotten open shots and floaters that he's just not hitting. I don't think he's locking him up so much as Dame isn't hitting like he usually does. When Dame is on, it doesn't matter who is guarding him, he dominates. That is why he will be All NBA First Team. After all, where was Jrue's lockdown defense when Dame scored 41 points in our last game at Smoothie King Center?

That's why BlazerBeav said the Pels are not even #2 in New Orleans. Saints. LSU Football. Then maybe the Pelicans.
No, the Saints then LSU football then the Pelicans.

That's because his shots are highly contested.

Our coaching staff has been exposed by Alvin Gentry? This is really what bothers me. To me, the key to this remains ball movement. Our play has been so predictable, even I would look great defending our guards.
