In the post-Sterling NBA, ownership fears are playing out: Am I next?

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

The sense of paranoia evoked ("Am I next?") certainly causes one to wonder how many NBA owners have been saying racist/sexist/homophobic things that make them concerned that it could have been about them.

This is awesome. How often do we get to watch billionaires worry that something will be taken away from them? I love you Adam Silver, you magnificent bastard!

Must spread some rep around before giving it to Rastapopouoos again.

Gotta love everything silver has done so far!

It's a Brave New World. We all must have Purity of Thought.

This post is one of the saddest I've ever read. Pathetic.

Here's another one you can think is pathetic MaxieP...

FUCK RICH PEOPLE! (Not all of them but most of them) They can eat a dick. They don't give a SHIT about you or me. They want to keep us poor and unhealthy, while THEY live off of OUR tax dollars. Yes they do. MFs getting subsidies up the ASS and not paying taxes! Fuck Exxon, Fuck BofA (bailout MFs), and Fuck GE too! GE got a 4.1 BILLION dollar refund from you and I and paid no taxes.... FUCK THEM!!

Reality check: the Hawks ownership group has been in chaos for years, with Levenson and his partners suing each other, etc. It's a safe bet he was already on thin ice.

Uh, I think you're talking about corporations here, not 'people'. Don't hate the player, hate the game. They the corporations take advantage of all the loopholes that this country created (and we put the lawmakers in place). Capitalism, not socialism bud. Big fish eat the little fish because that's the way it is. Only the strong survive, so if a person is poor and bitching about it, do something instead of having a victims mentality.

LOL! The irony!

"Corporations are people, dammit!"

"But what about this?"

"Corporations aren't people."

Well.... to me it made me think he was pissed at guys like Paul Allen, or the likes but then flips it around to hate on GE, Exxon, etc.

So does he hate Paul Allen or Vulcan, or both?

Does he hate everyone at GE, or just the lawyers that allow them to get through the loopholes to take advantage of the system?

Really? THAT'S the saddest? Don't worry maxie! Those billionaires are tough - they'll come through this! But I'm sure they'll appreciate the tears you're shedding for them.

Incidentally, thousands of children die in poverty every day. There - is that a sadder post? I fucking hope so, or I will wonder about you.

Annnd again, Blazer Board to OT-worthy in less than 5 posts.

lets take this one step further..

How many of us can say we have never done the same?

How many of us can say we haven't expressed explicitly racist/sexist/homophobic sentiments? Probably a lot of us. It's not like the question is, "Who has never said anything silly"...this is more specific.

A corporation buys brownies for $1.00 each, puts $.05 worth of frosting on them, then sells them for $1.10.

Should they pay tax on the $1.10 or the $.05 after paying their expenses?

If you answer $.05, then Sanders is full of shit.

The difference between corporations and people, as far as taxes go, is that corporations get to deduct expenses. Even rent. An individual filing taxes cannot write off his rent, electric bill, or any other ordinary expense.

There's a reason that envy and wrath are two of the seven deadly sins.

Let's be honest.... How many of us have done the same? I do it all the time. Mostly, it's been in jest and just having fun. I make fun of everyone, have a low-filter, and just have fun poking ish at everyone. Context is a huge piece of things, and that's hard to gain from emails/texts. It's likely the owner is guilty here, but let's not go overboard prosecuting all the owners.

Let's be honest on another concept. I don't think I've ever met someone that hasn't had some level of racism in them, no matter how minor. We all act on it, consciously or not, no matter how minor, at some point. It could be as minor as a silly joke; nobody is without flaw.

I disagree. Not sure if it's a typo or not, but I expect most of us HAVE at some point, joking or not. I'm guilty of expressing "racist/sexist/homophobic sentiments" at some point, jokingly or not. I acknowledge it. It's my approach in life, even if I generally don't agree. Laughter is the best medicine. I poke fun of everything, including myself. I find the person that denies his potential discrimination is often the most discriminatory.

Here's a dissenting view.

The Hawks' ownership group caused the NBA all sorts of headaches with their (very public) infighting, lawsuits, and general dysfunction.

Who outed Levenson for the E-mail? He did it himself. Who said he had to sell his interest in the team? That was also his own idea.

Hmmm. Admit to a small scandal, act like a martyr, and just maybe nobody notices a bigger scandal hiding in the closet. Just maybe this is Levonson leaving on his own terms instead of getting the boot over something really serious. :dunno:

Making a joke to friends who know you don't mean it is just a little different from making racist, homophobic or sexist comments that you do mean, or making such jokes publicly.

Exactly what I was saying, TBH. Though your post/grammar makes your post questionable.

My post was an honest reflection.

Not really sure what you're trying to say here.

How do we know the seriousness of the comments? I'm still unclear as to who ultimately made the comments. I've seen a few articles blaming a few different people. I'm curious for more info on this situation.

Making a joke to friends who know you don't mean it is just a little different from ... making such jokes publicly.

In what way, other than the intelligence level of the audience?
