Police officers in Indiana are upset over a new law allowing residents to use deadly force against public servants, including law enforcement officers, who unlawfully enter their homes. It was signed by Republican Governor Mitch Daniels in March.

The first of its kind in the United States, the law was adopted after the state Supreme Court went too far in one of its rulings last year, according to supporters. The case in question involved a man who assaulted an officer during a domestic violence call. The court ruled that there was “no right to reasonably resist unlawful entry by police officers.”

The National Rifle Association lobbied for the new law, arguing that the court decision had legalized police to commit unjustified entries.

Tim Downs, president of the Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police, which opposed the legislation, said the law could open the way for people who are under the influence or emotionally distressed to attack officers in their homes.

“It’s just a recipe for disaster,” Downs told Bloomberg. “It just puts a bounty on our heads.”

Indianapolis is a much more diverse city than Portland, at least in terms of racial demographics.

They might be more diverse, but the racial tolerance in that city is still kinda iffy (which is what some people there tell me). My future manager told me they're still a noticeable KKK presence in parts of the city.

There is no law in America that I know of protecting police from the consequences of their illegal actions. Just like any other home invader, you have the right to put them down if they enter your home illegally. You can also use deadly force to stop them if they are raping someone, molesting a child, beating their wife... These are all crimes police have committed and they do so far more often than the average citizen.

The typical law enforcement officer is mentally unstable with extreme violence tendencies and an attitude that they are above the law. If they act on those tendencies they need to be treated just like anyone else threatening your safety.

The only reason Indiana passed the law is because their state supreme court chose not to follow the law but instead just make shit up to suit their personal political views. Very similar to the way SCOTUS "ruled" on Florida's voter fraud and also the Citizen's United "ruling". Supreme court members are elevated to an untouchable position for life with the only recourse being to pass new laws in defense of their unfaithful and un-Constitutional decisions.

A Georgian chapter of the Ku Klux Klan has applied to adopt a section of a northern Georgia highway, according to CNN.

The group would be recognized by the state to be responsible for cleaning a section of Georgia State Route 515 in Union County, Georgia.

Klan chapter secretary April Chambers said they aren’t doing it for publicity, simply to keep the mountains clean.

"We're not racists," Chambers said Monday. "We just want to be with white people. If that's a crime, then I don't know. It's all right to be black and Latino and proud, but you can't be white and proud. I don't understand it."

According to ABC Alabama, the Georgia Department of Transportation is meeting Monday with the state Attorney General’s Office to discuss how to move forward. In a similar attempt by a Missouri chapter, a federal appeals court decided that the state can’t forbid the group from participating in the program based on political beliefs.

"Any civic-minded organization, business, individual, family, city, county, state, or federal agency is welcome to volunteer in the Georgia Adopt-A-Highway program," the DOT website says.

Chambers told CNN that "I don't see why we can't (adopt the stretch of highway)," she said. "Would it be any different if it was the Black Panthers or something? Someone always has some kind of race card."

I saw Charlie Daniels Band at the UofI (Illinois) in the late 1970s, and it was a fantastic show. After finishing school, I saw he was in concert in Merrillville Indiana, so I got tickets and went.

The UofI show was a bunch of college kids with cowboy hats, big belt buckles, boots, etc.

The Indiana show was a bunch of guys in white dress shirts with undershirts - kinda mormon looking.

So Charlie Daniels played his country/rock hits for half the show. Then the curtains behind him opened up and there was an all black gospel type choir. The rest of the show was gospel music, and it was pretty amazing.

The moral of the story? Welcome to the bible belt.
