A Rangers spokesperson said around 2AM that the initial diagnosis on Ryan McDonagh’s injury was that it was “not serious.” (Andrew Gross)

McDonagh’s left arm is in a sling. (Pat Leonard)

Don't like the sling thing, and it is safe to assume he misses the game at the Avs tomorrow night, but maybe he is back shortly thereafter, before the regular season ends.

This could be GREAT news.

Hopefully a mild sprain or bruised shoulder. He's a tough kid.

Remember that cheap shot he took from Pacioretty, I believe last year? It looked way worse than last night and he only missed one game.

11:47AM: McDonagh will travel with the team to Colorado rather than head back to New York. (Larry Brooks)

This can only be viewed as good news. If it was major and serious I am sure he would come home for tests.

Yes, makes me not worried about it.

McDonagh traveling to Denver is the only update that the team is expecting to today. (Andrew Gross)

More good news IMO.

Whether it's bad or good news, Shanahan must penalize
Burrows for cheap shot. What a piece of shit.

Moving forward, on to Colorado.....my sleeper to get to the
big show. This game will be tough to win on the road.....
But we shall see.

Larry Brooks reports that McDonagh has no structural damage to his shoulder and did not suffer a separation or a dislocation in his shoulder. (NY Post)

McDonagh will be sidelined for an “indefinite period of time” though it isn’t known if he will miss any time in the playoffs. (NY Post)

I wouldn't rely on any media right now with injury updates. If anything I would expect the rangers to downplay the injury. Only way we know for sure as if he is in the lineup.

A team spokesman tells Steve Zipay that it would be “inaccurate” to describe McDonagh as being “out indefinitely.” (Newsday)

To me if it was major and/or he potentially had damage he wouldn't be in Colorado today or tomorrow he would be back in NY getting tests. I think that is pretty clear. They wouldn't play games there.

I am sure he will be back soon. Maybe he misses a few games against the Sens, Sabres, and Canes after the Avs game, but big picture he will be good for the playoffs I believe.

Last night's game was big just to inch closer to clinching a spot. I think the magic number is 2, if there is a magic number in hockey? :)

I told you weeks ago we had a spot locked up...:). And since we beat CBJ I have been saying we are pretty much locked into 2/3 and will be playing the Flyers, the only question was which team would have home ice.

Sit McDonagh a few games and let him be 100%. We most likely will struggle tomorrow night, but we should beat the Sens, Canes, and Sabres at home regardless of McD playing.

The earliest I would bring him back is next Tuesday against the Canes (a week off). And if he's not 100% I would wait until the last game at Montreal just so he has a game under his belt before the Flyers series.

Following the Rangers morning skate in Colorado, Alain Vigneault said that Ryan McDonagh is day to day and he doesn’t think he will be out that long. (Steve Zipay and Andrew Gross)

Rick Carpinello (Lohud blog) reporting that McD's injury more serious than previously stated, and might not be back for beginning of playoffs...ouch

From Carp's chat today;

Update on Mac?

12:02 Super duper top secret, but I think it's questionable whether he will be ready for Game 1, and doubt he will be 100 percent any time soon.

I buy nothing that gets reported on these injuries.

just the way he left the ice with his left shoulder hanging
tells me he won't be back any time soon.
Without him, Ranger D is very suspect. Not crazy
about Klein or Stahlman.

I didn't read the report but unless they are reporting that there was an MRI or x rays taken...im not overly concerned..but I don't trust anything that gets reported this time of year

I agree with Al and Mess. To me from the outside looking in, if it was that serious, and they were really concerned, I think he would have flown straight home and not gone to Colorado, but who knows really.

I saw Kreider was around as well, so we'll see on him also.

About 9 days until the playoffs.

If McDonagh does miss the Flyers series, I think it would be very difficult for us to beat them.

The way the defense has looked without him it will be difficult for us to beat anybody in a 7 gm series.

Agreed. We need McDonagh to win that series.

Staal and Girardi are top level dmen, after that we have a huge dropoff to 3rd pair type of guys like Stralman, Klein, Moore, and Diaz. That is why we need all of our big 3 in place and playing well. Without any of them, especially the best McD, we are really short of top 4 dmen...we are down to 2.

Hopefully worst case he misses the first two games which they can maybe split. That gives him about another 12 days.

If there's nothing structurally wrong I would bet he plays.

Chuck let's hope and pray they clinch a spot in the meantime. :)

mcd is fine, joikofff reporter lookin 4attention to the matter cause he's sittin out, confident rangs r in

11:18AM: Alain Vigneault isn’t sure he wants to play Ryan McDonagh before the season ends, even if he is healthy. (Katie Strang)

McDonagh may be able to practice with the team tomorrow depending on how he feels later today. (Katie Strang)

10:39AM: Ryan McDonagh is on the ice this morning at the Rangers optional skate and taking things “very easy.” (Brett Cyrgalis)

McDonagh is taking “light shots” and was setting up Marty St. Louis for one-timers. (Andrew Gross)
