Inseason Tournament Thread

Maybe the HCA would be a one-time consumable (not usable in the finals)? Like, you find out you won't have HCA after the first round. You keep the HCA in your pocket for round 2 and win anyway, then use it for the conference finals to get that extra push into the finals? Adds strategy and risk/reward to the meta-game for the coaching staff.

I think letting the team that wins the tournament have one extra win would be cool.

Despite all of the criticism, one would have to think the tournament is a success. I know I was watching NBA games Redzone style on a Tuesday night in November. Can guarantee I was not doing that anytime in the past.

The results of the top 8 teams is kind of interesting.
In the West you have 4 teams including the Pelicans who are currently in the 9th seeded position in the conference standings.
You also had the Warriors who are currently in the 10th spot in the mix up to halftime of their game last night.
In the East you have all 4 teams in the top 6 of the conference. Including the top 2 seeds.
The West top 2 seeds Denver and Minnesota as well as the Mavs 3rd seed are all out of the tournament.

Might be a little bit due to early season Parity? I wonder how al this will look in March?

Really like 95% of the IST and think it'll be a big hit long term.

But they need to get rid of the point differential tie breaker. Multiple teams were trying to run up the score last night and that's just not how NBA basketball should be played.

Tie breaker should be H2H tourney, H2H regular season, regular season record, common opponent regular season record, etc.
Agreed. And I think the groups should be the divisions. It’s too hard to remember which team is in which group.

I guess Indiana and Sacramento. They never win anything and they’re fun to watch. Also Knicks since they are home team.
East:
Knicks over Bucks
Pacers over Celtics

Pacers over Knicks

West:
Suns over Lakers
Kings over Pelicans

Kings over Suns

Final:
Kings over Pacers...

Celtics & Pacers in a battle. 2 minutes, still anyone's game

Celtics choked, what a bunch of losers. Pacers gonna win. I have no idea what anything in-season tournament means, but Boston definitely stunk in crunchtime.

prediction: teams who perform well in the IST will fall on their faces in that year’s play-in and playoffs.

Not an amazing prediction considering 19 fall on their faces in every postseason.

So excited for the inaugural in season tournament champion. They will be remembered forever….or at least 5-10 minutes
Hate it all you want. Still a bigger accomplishment than anything the Blazers have done since 1992.

Super exciting game in Indy. Huge win for the Pacers. Love the single elimination knock out rounds. Look at those fans and try to tell them it doesn't mean anything. They're more excited than anything I can remember in Portland outside of maybe Dames two series buzzer beaters.

I don't really see the downside. Even if you not a huge fan isn't it way better than the 6 regular season games it replaces?

If there's anything we should get rid of it's the all-star game. Just a bunch of super friends picking their buddies and not playing defense. Has nothing to do with competitive basketball.

No it’s not. Are you telling me the Blazers haven’t won random games in a season that counts as a regular season win? Are you telling me since 1992 Portland hasn’t beat the Lakers, Suns, Jazz and Grizzlies all in a single season? Then three more other teams randomly?

today is Hart vs. Lillard
and Reddish vs. Nassir (and Nurk)
- glad to see former Blazers having some success. Thanks for the inconsistent performances and lackadaisical defense offered in Portland. We really love the amazing talent delivered by the ping pong angels.

For those of you who don't like this tournament... I just don't get it. Have you been watching these games yesterday and this one going on right now? They are different. This is a brilliant idea and although the courts are whack, everything else is being executed really well.

the 3 ex-Blazers in the LAL/PHX matchup scored a combined 12 points in 75 minutes of action.

borderline hopeless, I like the Blazers new direction.
