Inseason Tournament Thread

today is Hart vs. Lillard
and Reddish vs. Nassir (and Nurk)
- glad to see former Blazers having some success. Thanks for the inconsistent performances and lackadaisical defense offered in Portland. We really love the amazing talent delivered by the ping pong angels.
It's weird watching Reddish play solid defense and actual inspired basketball? It's like where was this guy?

the 3 ex-Blazers in the LAL/PHX matchup scored a combined 12 points in 75 minutes of action.

borderline hopeless, I like the Blazers new direction.
I counted 4 missed layups and two extended rests laying on the floor during action by Nurkic. Of course there was the obligatory holding his face while running down court action as well.

I thought there was a ton of interest on here about this tourney thing?

the Blazers won their first tournament game. Everyone was excited to bring home a trophy. Now Blazer fans are just excited when Scoot shoots less then 3 airballs.

What this article seems to be saying is that the IST is working. It's creating interest in the league at a time when most casual sports fans weren't tuning in. I'm not really interested in the ratings for tonight's game because it is a one off but the fact that overall ratings are up and ratings were way up for the tourney games makes me think this thing will be sticking around and it will increase interest in early season games from fans who usually wait until either Christmas or after the Superbowl to start tuning in.

Been a huge success. Not perfect and could have some tweaks buf yes it'll be here a long time. Bunch of old cranky men on this forum who've posted otherwise, probably similar to people saying the 3 point shot was a temporary fad 40 years ago.

Wouldn't be shocked if in 10+ years we get a second IST. Really doesn't detract at all from the regular season since their also regular season games.

Gotta admit LeBron deserved that.
Hate that the lakers won it.

I think giving the players a couple days in Vegas with the final four makes it something the players enjoy also.
If it's good for ratings and the players enjoy it I'm fine with it.

I'm just not at all interested in it for more than the regular season games they are.

I thought it was a made up kinda stupid thing. The courts were cool I guess. The play was a bit elevated, but then again, if I was going to make $500,000 I would play harder too. It just seemed all so faux. Of course the Lakers won.

If you guys just watch the games from group stages to the 7 single elimination games, you would get it. The players give more effort, no one is getting rested for load management and if you watched Thursday and tonight it was playoff level basketball in early December. That was a treat and if you say it wasn't, I honestly think you weren't paying attention. If you weren't paying attention then shame on you because it sure beats watching our team flounder in regular season games because we're in the middle of a youth rebuild. It's honestly like the playoffs in November and early December... not the finals but definitely as intense as conference finals. These dudes went all out and when Giannis and Dame lost in the semis they seemed deflated but because there's still more than half of the season left that deflation will serve as motivation. The Lakers will be motivated by the championship. Everyone who was involved in the "elite eight" got a bit of a measuring stick less than halfway through the season and will take that with them.

There really isn't any downside to this and in that way the NBA front office is filled with geniuses for making it happen. They'll tweak it and make it even better but it will be here to stay and fans that are shitting on it today will be talking about how a Finals champions without an IST championship is less than one with it in a few seasons.
