He's a slightly less physical Staal. Relies on his frame and reach to make plays defensively.

I don't really see what the point of this would be. Not that hes a bad player, but theres already a logjam at left D with Skjei about half a year away. Unless Sather has something else in the works on top of this. Talbot is our best chip and I don't want to use him on a 7th D.
 
Of all the guys we could get in this deal for talbot is another LD where there is no need that has no offense, not a physical player and doesn't fill a need like rw that can score really what we want. I say hell no to Marincin keep taking offers which should get better the closer we get to the draft.
 
If Marincin can turn out to be a Hjalmarsson-type then they should nab him in the deal. If Edmonton had a B+forward instead for the deal i'd go that route but they don't really. Musil is a decent d-prospect too.
 
To me for Talbot, Marincin AND the 33rd pick would be a good return. Maybe that is the deal we make and maybe it isn't, but I think that would be a very good return for Talbot based on value alone.

Maybe we will push for the 16th pick and/or a different prospect than Marincin, but if we end up with Mar and 33 I wouldn't be angry as I think that is great value for Talbot.
 
Good value, yes. But it's not just about value, it's also about need. I don't see how that trade makes us a better team. Left side D is probably the deepest position in the organization right now.
 
No need to trade a valuable chip like Talbot for a LH dman, makes absolutely no sense and doesn't address the Rangers needs. If that's all Edmonton is willing to offer then its time to see what the Sharks or Sabres are willing to part with.
 
His value really isn't all that great, being he's a UFA and already 27 y/o, plus limited games playing behind a very solid team. If you can get basically their 1st back(33rd vs 29th or whatever)+ another good dman for the farm which dosen't have many then you jump on it. If Edmonton ever gave the 16th for Talbot alone that GM should be fired.
 
Look around, see what it is out there, maybe try and get the 16th pick, but if we get 33 and Marincin for Talbot I wouldn't be upset. And if we found a better fit, maybe a R shot winger, I wouldn't be upset either. I don't think it would be a bad deal is my opinion. And I also don't think it is a deal we have to take for sure if we can get a better fit than a LD.
 
You're right chuck it's not a bad deal. But is this really the "home run" situation Dreger was talking about. Yeah he could be wrong, but he wasn't the only one saying that.

Not to mention Marincin is an RFA this year. Another guy we' have to negotiate and get under contract with a raise, and I believe (could be wrong) that his waiver situation is similar to McIlrath's next year.

It just doesn't make sense to me on a lot of levels. Why use our best trade chip on a defenseman when this team couldn't score in the playoffs to save their lives. Maximize value as it relates to the team's needs, don't just get the best value period. Its not the draft.
 
I also don't see this making sense from EDM's standpoint. You have to think Chiarelli will be building up their blue line, not trading one of their better young dmen.
 
Which is why if I were betting man I'd bet that wasn't the deal. My only point was it's very good value for Cam and I wouldn't be upset if it happened. I do think we will get good value for Cam at this point, and it will happen sooner rather than later.
 
I have no interest in Marincin. None. The 33rd pick is not a good return as only about 11% of second round picks become good NHL players.

Rather deal Talbot and Glass to Dallas for Roussel and a couple of picks.
 
So giving up the 29th pick is fucking over the future but getting the 33rd pick is useless.
What happened to all the great second round picks you rattle off.. 4 positions in the draft but worlds apart in your eyes.

Al, do you even pay attention to the deals the Rangers make? They gave up their first rounder in the St. Louis deal this year and the previous year. That was 2 number 1 picks. Plus they gave up Callahan. Plus they gave up a first rounder, second rounder and Duclair in the Yandle deal. Are you really this stupid? Try looking at everything they gave up in a deal. They didn't give up one first round pick at 29. They gave up a lot more. I'm putting you on ignore because you're just an imbecile at this point. When you start lying to support your own B.S., you aren't worth responding to.

Best part of Al's rants are that Chuck is so unbelievably stupid, he agrees with them. There is a reason Chuck that Sather is asking for multiple picks for Talbot. Not one pick. Not just the 33rd overall pick. The reason is because he knew he screwed up the farm by being stupid and going all in and not getting something back for the future in those deals. Now the farm is weak, and a weak farm hurts your ability to do a lot of things. One is holding leverage over players on the current roster making salary demands. When there are lots of prospects in the system, players can be replaced. They know that. If effects how greedy they are because if they get too nuts, they get sent out of town. Of course, you have ZERO business sense so I wouldn't expect you to think of things in that much depth.

I do. However, Al and Chuck are acting like these deals were giving up one pick. They weren't. The St. Louis deal was two first round picks in the end and a good player in Callahan. The Yandle deal was a 1st, 2nd and a top prospect in some scouts eyes in Duclair. Let's say they got back a first round pick with Hayes, They still gave up 2 first round picks, a sec0nd round pick, Callahan and Duclair and won nothing. That's not smart. If it worked you can't argue it but it didn't. That is why Sather is trying to accumulate picks again because he knows his deals were a failure.
 
I don't know about u guys but if we can't get a young scorer with size for cam I would rather get a couple of picks starting with #16 from edmonton especially in this draft which is loaded. Not interested in D-man back. Maybe the 2nd of their two 2's would work. Surprised no rumors yet on any other cam offers
 
Couple of things dump.

Yeah, we gave up a few late 1st rounders, no doubt about it. And yeah in 3 or 4 years we might pay for that, but I also know they were picks in the mid to late 20's, and while those picks matter for sure you aren't getting difference makers there barring something crazy happening.

We also added Hayes, which more than makes up for one late 1st we dealt. We added a 2nd back from TB. AND we will deal Talbot for a good pick, which will make up for another late 1st we dealt.

You also say it didn't work...and I don't accept that yet. Last I checked 2015 wasn't the last year of the NHL and wasn't the last year of the NY Rangers franchise. They will play hockey again in 2016, and if the Rangers win next season it did work.

So you speak as if the book is written and finished, and it is not. We have a few runs left in us with this core. I will offer my thoughts on did it work or not in 2 or 3 years, not right in the middle of the window.

It is smart for Sather to turn Talbot into a good pick, worst case an early 2nd. That makes sense to me to help make up for some of the deals we have made to try and win a cup. But again I also know these picks we gave up are not top level picks. They are not can't miss NHL players. Better chance they don't make the NHL than they are anything more than maybe decent NHL players. That's just the way it is with picks in the mid to late 20's.

And I also know we are in the middle of our window, and these mid to late 1st rounders we dealt will not be felt for another 2 or 3 years...again that is reality. My hope is by the time we get to 2018 we have a cup to show for it...we'll see about that.

It's hard to argue about the Callahan for MSL... MSL was a big part in getting us to the finals last year, he was a big part in us Not making the finals this year... Callahan was a non-factor for TB 2 years in a row
 
Talbot's worth more this year because there are no free agent goaltenders of note available this year: Bernier/Budaj/Bryzgalov. That's a good thing for Glen and why Cam should fetch a better return than one might normally expect.
 
Didnt we also get a second round pick BACK in the cally trade, wasnt the 2nd 1st round pick contingent of a lenghty playoff run...oh wait dont let facts get in the way teach...this cpa knows nothing about business.

I'll give a perfect example of how Sather is overpaying beyond belief for rentals. The Kings gave up Frattin who sucked, a 2nd and a 3rd for Gaborik. Sather is giving up 5 times more in these deals. Idiotic.
 
I'm not reading your crap any longer Chuck. You have proven to ignore facts to support your points. You're just ignoring parts of deals the Rangers make in order to support a lame point. The bottom line is that Sather has overpaid in his deals and destroyed the farm. Fact. It can't be argued. If you are still trying to do that, go look at deals that other teams have made. Chicago ended up over paying badly for Vermette. They didn't give up a first to have that guy have 3 points in 19 regular season games and play 10 minutes in the finals. In the end they won I'm sure they don't care. Rangers didn't win jack. When you get that through your head, then I'll read your long winded, nonsense.

Sather gave up 3 first round picks, a second, Duclair and Callahan. He got back a guy who hurt the team this year in the playoffs in St. Louis and is done, Yandle who will most likely be gone after this season and a 2nd round pick. They won nothing. So far the deals have been atrocious.

If they deal Yandle or use Yandle to deal another defenseman, maybe the end result will be different. Of course he probably can't deal Staal because the moron gave him a no trade clause.

At least now he got it right in that the rangers gor a 2nd rounder back. And again you missed the point, WHEN YOU GO FOR A CUP YOU WILL GIVE UP ASSETS TO GET PLAYERS. you say they gave up everything..msl had the goal axoring ability they rangers needed, they gave up a player who was no longer a team player and has done shit for tampa. If the rangers won the cup two years ago you wouldnt be saying boo about the trade. Don't kid yourself or this board.
