Lots of historical info, all relating the year to food.

http://www.foodreference.com/html/html/food-history-1936.html

Here's a few examples:

1936 The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is invented. It is a giant hot dog on wheels. Invented by Carl Mayer, nephew of Oscar Mayer, it was built by General Body Company at Chicago, Illinois. There are now a fleet of six. www.oscar-mayer.com

1942 Corn dogs are invented by Neil Fletcher for the Texas State Fair.

1943 Sgt. Edward Dzuba received the Legion of Merit award because of his talent to use food scraps in unusual and appetizing recipes.

1903 Richard Jordan Gatling died. Before inventing the Gatling Gun, he developed a machine for sowing rice, wheat, and other grains, and invented a steam plow.

1904 The tea bag was invented by Thomas Sullivan of New York City. He first used them to send samples to his customers instead of sending it in more expensive tins.

That's an interesting chronology of inventions and popular culture. I always wondered what or who Typhoid Mary was. I thought maybe it was a typhoon.

1938 Typhoid Mary (Mary Mallon) died at North Brother Island, New York City. Infamous household cook who was responsible for major outbreaks of typhoid in the New York City area in 1904, 1907, and 1914. She was immune to typhoid, but was a carrier of the bacillus, and spread it wherever she worked as a household cook.
