According to multiple reports/sources, Thomas Vanek has rejected a substantial contract offer from the New York Islanders and the team is looking to trade him.
It is believed that the offer is in the same range as his current seven-year, $50 million deal. The NHL will go into a roster freeze on Feb. 7 for the Olympic break and the trade deadline is set for Mar. 5. Vanek is reportedly leaning toward testing unrestricted free agency this summer, but he hasn't completely closed the door on the Islanders.
