Interesting video explaining "privilege"

Unfortunately, she is talking about something other than privilege.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but she should look it up in a dictionary before she starts trying to "educate" people.

Driver Mahabur Rahman is an Arab.

Race was not a factor.

Of course it was. The driver was most likely Muslim. Obviously, he was looking for a white dude so he could cut off his head. Have you not been paying attention to Trump?

He was hailing a cab, cabbie drove right by him to next white guy and then cabbie admitted it. Happens all the time.

Ah! I see. I don't see white privilege in this though. Mahabur Rahman sounds like a guy from the middle east, likely a Muslim. What do you suppose his motive is in saying it was racial preference?

It been a quite a while now since I have called for Cab, how does it work in New York now? If you call for a cab, is the cab driver required to stop and pickup any black man that hails him instead of going to the call?

I remember the desk clerk in Indianapolis call me cab once, when the cab got to the hotel, there was a ruckus with some guy bitching about his getting to the cab first, but the cabbie took me instead. Was that white privilege?

Who knows why? He's scared or believes the stereotype that black people don't tip. I've heard the tip thing a thousand times.

I have big guy privilege. I hear stories about how people I know are treated by others and I can't relate. I am amazed at the things people say to those they aren't afraid of.

On January 13th, a group of HELLS ANGELS, California bikers were riding along Colorado Street in Pasadena when they saw a girl about to jump off Pasadena's Suicide Bridge. So they stopped. John, their leader, a big burly man of 53, gets off his Harley, walks through a group of gawkers, past the State Trooper who was trying to talk her down off the railing, and says, "Hey Baby . . . whatcha doin' up there on that railin'?" She says tearfully, "I'm going to kill myself!!" While he didn't want to appear "sensitive," John also didn't want to miss this "be-a-legend" opportunity either so he asked, "Well, before you jump, Honey-Babe . . . why don't you give ol' John here your best last kiss?" So, with no hesitation at all, she leaned back over the railing and did just that . . . and it was a long, deep, lingering kiss followed immediately by another even better one. After they breathlessly finished, John gets a big thumbs-up approval from his biker-buddies, the onlookers, and even the State Trooper, and then says, "Wow! That was the best kiss I have ever had! That's a real talent you're wasting there, Sugar Shorts. You could be famous if you rode with me. Why are you committing suicide?" She explained, "My parents don't like me dressing up like a girl." It's still unclear whether she jumped or was pushed.

I think big guy advantage is what you have. Nothing wrong with that.
It's just a term people who care about made up. Kinda hard to decide what is and what isn't because of this or that. I'll just say that Louis CK is dead on. White people aren't better, being white is. It's pretty obvious for the most part. There are usually exceptions to stuff and I could name some now but why bother?

You see, you used the word better and then implied it again, refuting judgement and then passing judgement. I seem to sense privilege is also being used is the same way, to pass judgement.

Well, lets see some actual facts, like 40" inch legs are and advantage playing basketball. Short legs, relative to body, is an advantage in swimming (more like a dolphin). The list here could go on and on but the word better does not apply in the universal sense. Advantage does in specific cases. Privilege makes no sense until you start speaking of Europe, where privilege does indeed follow status. In this country a few probably do have privilege, most of the time it is advantages. Staying in most of the better hotels will get you a cab to the door as apposed to taking your chances hailing a cab. Selecting the right Hotel can be an advantage.

We often overlook the usefulness of complementary in favor of hard count where diversity is scored, or in favor of advantages where the desired advantage artificially suggest a binary choice. More education in the field of team building can open the way for complementary staffing rather than completely relying on competitive filtering. The composite end result is more often than not, greater than the sum of the parts.

I suppose I will draw fire here, but what the hell. I had a black guy on my International projects team. He was not there to satisfy my diversity numbers. He was on the initial negotiating team, and on the project revue team. The first time I took him to England to negotiate a proposed joint project, he asked me Why I took him on this trip. We were sitting in a quaint place, a Thatch Roofed Hotel lounge out in the Country side, near the southern English city of Winchester. Anyway I took another sip of the wonderful English Bitters and thought about what to say. It didn't take long, he provided the answer, You took me along to make um Dance!. I couldn't have said it better. Many Black men often have the advantage of rhythm in more than one sense.
I replied, yes, Sir! I think you have it. We were successful that trip too. He was also very good at keeping project revues rolling. They often turn into a mesmerizing bore without the right people and most nerd white people sorely lack the advantage needed. Complementary teaming makes the difference.

Oh no, Marazul just went Jimmy the Greek, "blacks were bred to be better athletes," on us.

Can somebody link Louis CK for me.?

He talks about a time machine and a black guy couldn't go back in time past say 1980.

That seems about right.

I didn't say white people are better. I don't think that. Enough of us do still, so much that black people still get screwed on a daily basis. I don't understand how this is a debate.

I'm glad it doesn't happen to me because I'd go batshit crazy on someone. Some might say that's part of my white privilege. Just being able to THINK that someone fucking me over is going to get theirs.

Black people can't do that or there would be trouble.

Hell. I wouldn't stop there. Id start by boycotting the screenings of major Hollywood movies in general. The lack of diversity in casting motion pictures nowadays is sickening.

It mirrors greater society. Spike Lee couldn't get the studios to fund his movies. He lacked privilege.

And the sad thing is Hollywood thinks it's progessive, when it couldn't be further from the truth. Ian McKellen is right, they are completely delusional.

If Spike Lee's movies made money there would be more of them.

I'm gonna let the white males handle this one for me MarAzul. There are people here who actually get it.

And let the record show I don't believe for one bit that your daughter was denied at Stanford due to "reasons of diversity"...

Coonery...

I had to look that up.

coonery
Acting in such a manner as to perpetuate black stereotypes in society such as music videos solely about cars, money and women.
P Diddy, Soulja Boy, Most of hip-hop in general, Flava Flav...all examples of coonery

Maybe Hollywood needs to take a giant crash. Their business model doesn't really seem so effective much anymore. While films still make gazzilions, the budgets have to be large and the returns have to be as well. So you don't get as many films. If independent producers and directors can raise their own funds and sell the content directly to companies like Netflix, maybe they'll be able to cast the actors they want. Until you knock out the middle man, you can't bring down the system. But good luck getting changes made in a system of golden bullshit.

That makes much more sense than boycotting the Oscars. The academy is not really to blame for the lack of diversity in Hollywood movies. It's hard to point to specific movies or actors and say they should have been nominated. For one, I don't think Straight Outta Compton should have been nominated for best picture like that article says.

Really? Well what do you think it really was? I suppose the letter could be some bull shit cover story.

Nothing of substance from any one of them yet.

PS I think you are lost, can't give a cogent answer. Whine much is all there is.

Gee, I guess Affirmative Action hasn't permeated Hollywood Award Committees yet.
