I might get the iphone 5. But then again, I might not.

iOS6 is for nerds only.

I am developing WWW software for iPhone and Android right now, so I have one of each right next to each other. When it comes to the software, Android really blows in all respects compared to iPhone.

I am going to be added to my fiance's (AT&T) phone plan. I'll get my choice of phones. Still unsure which I should choose. What are the most common factors in choosing between an iPhone and Android?

I'm not the geeky type.

PS: She's with AT&T because it's the only company that provides good cell quality in her area.

The JavaScript engine in iOS6 is way faster. That'll make WWW browsing and some apps feel a lot faster.

Do you want to spend a lot of money for a shiny badge that says I'm a tech snob, or do you want to spend less money for a nearly identical phone?

"Siri, where should I hide the body?"

The latter.

I have several friends that have switched from Android phones to an iPhone and they like the iPhone better. I have a couple of friends that switched from iPhone to Android and they are now considering going back to the iPhone.

This only works with the new iPhone 5, correct? (without an app)

There are a kazillion apps that stitch together panorama shots already, but now it's a built-in feature with your iPhone's camera—240 degrees of wide-wide-wide shooting, melded together automatically. Those should be a lot of fun to text around.

From my own experience...

A jailbroken iphone > android
android > stock iphone

iPhones are better for non-geeky people.

i have an iphone 4s and a galaxy s3, and they are both pretty dope, gotta give the edge to the iphone just for intuitiveness, although the galaxy s3 screen is amazing

why do you have two phones?

The un-nerd misspelled iOS6 in the thread title.

I updated mine early today. My phone seems to operate faster... apps & web.

I need to check it against my wife's un-upgraded 4S, but I saw the same thing myself when I upgraded. Less lag on scrolling to the point where it felt like it was predicting my thumb movements instead of reacting to them. Everything else feels snappy and OH MY GOD PULL TO REFRESH IN MAIL!!! FINALLY!

I don't understand anything in this thread. Also, I don't know what a meme is, and I can't pronounce Ayn Rand's first name. But I do know that on tablets, Blackberry > Android 4.0.

In general, there will be plenty of Europeans who feel they have been “screwed on 3D” (as one person put it to me), but there may be more serious issues to content with.

For instance, if you’re an iPhone user in Russia – not a trivial market – you will now be far more inclined to use maps provided by local search giant Yandex than either Google or Apple’s. Not to mention annoying things like Kiev (in nearby Ukraine) being misspelled.

Meanwhile over in Ireland, they appear to have sprouted a new airport with Apple’s map designating “Airfield Park” in Dublin as an airport (it’s not). In Israel, “chunks of roads are missing, even from major cities” tweeted one user. This is odd, given that Apple is using Waze data, largely thought to be better than Google’s for maps of Israel.

One business traveler site pointed out, that searching for London can sometimes bring you to the city in Canada, and you need to type “London, UK” if you definitely want the British city. Admittedly though, the issue is patchy and seems to vary between users.

The problem is that the location data the iOS app uses (from Yelp, TomTom and others) is less comprehensive than Google’s. Thus, major hotels in Tokyo are missing and the app can’t find the large Paddington Station in London. And that’s just a couple of examples.

one of my favorite comments on techcrunch:

Great so now there's going to be thousands of hipsters driving around lost :biglaugh:

Wow -- the new Maps app is a serious downgrade. This will be a MAJOR problem for Apple unless they get their shit together, fast.
