This might be the stupidest idea, ever. There's already enough issues with keeping a regular iPod screen scratch free, imagine how ****** this screen will look after a couple of weeks.

Haven't heard of this gadget yet. What exactly does it do?

You have the ability to go on the internet with this one using a Wi-fi. That's pretty awesome.

What issues are there with keeping an iPod scratch free? I put mine in a case ever since I copped and it has very minimal scratching if any.

Yeah common sense would tell you to do that, but have you seen an iPod that has no screen protector? Give it 2 weeks and it looks like hell.

I might cop this, I'm not sure. It depends on if they can create a good screen protector.

Isnt that the exact same design as Microsoft's Zune?

So I guess its just an Iphone that doesn't make calls?

Basically.

Man this iPod is going to be hard not to get it scratch.

It look slike it will snap on contact. I'll be afraid to put that in my pocket without it breaking.

If it's anything like the iPhone, it's pretty sturdy.

I'm guessing it has the same glass as the iPhone too, and that glass is impressingly scratch proof.

Blur Wrote

What's the price on this thing/release date?

Prices start at $300 for the iTouch.

I dunno. Once my Mini burns out, I may pick this up.

Damn $300? Might as well spend another $99.00 and get the iPhone itself. They just lowered the price by $200.00 on the 8GB phone.

Shape has the right idea. Though, you do gotta sign up with AT&T, whose service sucks and customer service is just as horrible.

It's just a way for Apple to get something out for the holidays (that's not as expensive as the iPhone) even though it's not innovative at all. I still stand by them for their computers, but the whole iPod game is getting stupid.

Why I'll Pass on the iPod Touch

Quote:

No Phone: The new iPod Touch may have more storage, but it doesn't have a phone. This means you still have to carry two devices: a phone and the iPod Touch. I don't know about you, but I'm not one to carry an iPod everywhere I go. That's why I say no thanks to the iPod Touch. I'll just stick to an iPhone and eliminate all the excess baggage.

No Camera: The 2-megapixel camera is gone.

No Bluetooth or EDGE: This means no bluetooth headphones, headset, or access to the Internet when you can't find a hotspot. Bummer.

Wi-Fi: Woohoo, it has Wi-Fi ? but what's the use of having Wi-Fi if you can't always access a hotspot outside the house? Once you walk out the door, the only place you have free access to the Internet is at Starbucks to buy music.

Storage: Why, oh why on earth would you pay $299 for an 8GB iPod or $399 for 16GB? OK, so it's flash-based, has a multi-touch interface, a beautiful 3.5-inch display, and Wi-Fi capabilities, but the price just seems outrageous when the 160GB metal iPod Classic is only $349. Makes me wanna weep.

No New Features: The iPod Touch is just an iPhone without a phone. And why didn't they add new colors, FM radio, an expansion slot, or a microphone to give it VoIP capabilities? Even the Sony Mylo and Zune have some of these features. Why make it look and act like a PDA, yet leave out important things like a microphone.

The good news is we now have options. Options are great when you don't have to to decide between carriers, or find ways to unlock the iPhone without it blowing up in your face. The iPod Touch has great features, but doesn't compare to the iPhone. Now that the iPhone is cheaper, why not go for the one with the most features at the expense of storage? Besides, I already have plenty of storage for music on my four other iPods.

My gut says to hold off on buying the iPhone for a bit. The discounted 8GB iPhone leaves a nice slot for a premium version at $600. I'm guessing they'll introduce a 12GB iPhone with 3G cell network capabilities. (Faster internet over AT&T's coverage)

They're gonna have to release a 3G version of the iPhone anyways, for when they release it in Europe.

The Super Villain, I put mines in a case from Day 1 and it still found a way to get all nasty on the back. It was a pretty good case as well, Ipods are just made to get ugly quickly so consumers will be like "I want a new shiny iPod...might as well upgrade to the 4,000 terabyte version so I can watch CSI on my way to..." pfffffffffff

But the front should be in excellent condition, I have yet to peel that plastic sleeve.

omfg, AT&T is pure crap. They add so many minutes to your phone, and then when you accuse them, they get all defensive and say maybe your phone dialed in your pocket when you sat down or something." I say, yea that's the case, now that you know, can you remove the 35 minute phone call? Instead, he says hang on let me transfer you to a supervisor...10 seconds later "We're sorry, but the number you have dialed is not in service. Please hang up and..."

Amazing enough, all that crap stopped when I took my number to T-Mobile. I still owe those bastards like $300 (my dad's credit is already f'd up.)

Here's a tip for all of you with cell phones.

When you have issues with billing and the phone company you need to bypass the customer service department and tell them to transfer you to Accout Services.

The Account Services department has the authority to remove charges and credit you back. They can also fill out the necessary forms to take the credit strikes off your credit report.

Apple's iPod lineup has gotten really expansive this year. There's almost too many iPods at too many pricepoints, and none of them are a clear winner.

But that's the genius of it. What they're doing is throwing a bunch of stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. Take a look at the iPhone when it first came out. They had a $500 4GB version and a $600 8GB version. Apple had no idea if people would settle for just 4GBs on the device, or if people would actually spend $600. So what'd they do? They released both and let the consumers decide.

Now it's evident that people are willing to pay $600 to get a premium device.

I was at the Apple Store yesterday and noticed that the iPod classic was getting absolutely NO attention. I'm guessing that Apple released the iPod classic for the soul reason of seeing if people still want to have a 80GB/160GB device My gut feeling is the iPod classic will fade out as people realize they don't need to have all of their music in their pocket at once.

/end apple fanboy-ism

That Ipod looks sweet.

But I would rather the old Ipods...

I'm still deciding between an 16 gig iPod Touch and a 160 gig iPod Classic. Do I go with Coolness or do I go with Storage?I do have a 4 gig memory stick that I could use on my Sony Walkman phone...but I really want an iPod back. :(Anyone else making a decision between the Touch and the Classic?

If you don't take many long trips and you're able to sync your iPod on the daily basis, definitely go with the 16GB iPod Touch. You can easily setup iTunes to swap your old music with new, and keep a solid rotation going. I definitely recommend this thread:
