I thought I would start a catch-all thread about impressions of this year's voting cycle. It stems from sitting down with my wife and going through our ballots.

I vote in Oregon and she votes in Colorado. Since we've been together, we have a process. We sit down together with our computers, our research printed out and our ballots. We went through each race, discussed the candidates and ballot measures, debated the pros and cons and then made our pick. Sometimes she sways me on my ballot and sometimes I sway her. Mostly we went through the exercise because we enjoy talking civics.

This cycle I found left me more unfulfilled that usual. I haven't been able to figure out why until this morning. With both the OR and CO ballots I found that I wasn't really voting for issues and candidates but rather to stop the side with which I disagreed. In short, this slate of candidates left me completely uninspired.

Generally, I don't look for inspiration from others, but this crop was so bereft of vision, there wasn't a single vote where I thought to myself "I'm proud to have voted for that person."

Am I alone? What are other people's impressions of their candidates and ballot measures? Is there any person or cause that moves you? Are you doing any volunteer work to get someone elected or a measure passed? I hope everyone isn't feeling the way I do. Our problems are too big to call for incremental solutions.

For as great a state as I believe Oregon to be I'm very disappointed in our choice of candidates for governor.

As far as Dudley is concerned, is it his total lack of experience that concerns/disappoints you.......or something(s) else?

I think it's safe to say he's no Mark Hatfield or Tom McCall.

What's really odd is how much power and influence Goldsmidt still has in this state.

yeah, most of my votes are picking the "lesser of two evils" kind of thing. I'm pretty sure everything I want to vote for is going to lose...the big one is to repeal the global warming final solutions act, that is going to kill California's economy like nothing else.

not big on whitman or fiorina but voting for them, they'll prob both lose...marijuana won't be legalized....this state is totally and completely fucked. I really need a good exit plan.

Gavin Newsom lt. governor? only solace is that fucking wack job Kamala Harris isn't going to win as State AG.
