Is Chris Paul worth it?

My thoughts exactly. I was in favour of tailoring personnel to Roy when he was easily the team's best player. But Paul would be easily the best player if Portland acquired him and Oden is potentially more important than Roy (if he ever stays healthy). I have no doubt that Paul and Oden can play together offensively...so if Roy couldn't, I'd say it would be time to look for opportunities to deal Roy. But I'd hate to do that. I love Roy's game, so I would really hope he could integrate it with other talented guys.

Exactly Roy would learn to love Paul or learn to love whatever team we traded him to. I love Roy and want him to retire here with his number in the rafters next to all the Banners he helped win. Seriously though he's not Michael Jordan. Roy can run the point when Paul sits if that is so damned important and Paul needn't have the ball EVERY time down the court. They would make it work and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. You're so right about injuries as well.

I'll point out again how much Roy raved abut playing with Paul during the All-Star game. Roy played off of the ball great in that game. It's not Roy's fault he has been forced to play SG with Jarrad Jack, Steve Blake, and Andre Miller as PG. Roy is better with the ball than any of those players. Having him play off the ball primarily with an average PG hogging the ball never made any sense to me. Having him play of the ball with Paul, who a team has to respect, will be fine.

I just hope to god that Roy's ego doesn't come into play here. I'm not saying it will, because it seems like our guys get along with Brandon very well, but adding Chris Paul would immediately move Roy down to "second best player on the team". I know that Roy has mentioned in the past that he wants to be like Kobe, LeBron, Wade, etc. I'm hoping that having another star on the team wouldn't bruise his ego, because I don't think it would be "Brandon Roy and the Portland Trail Blazers" anymore. I'm pretty sure the media would immediately start calling us, "Chris Paul and the Portland Trail Blazers." Some guys wouldn't like that.... I'm just hoping Brandon isn't one of those guys. I don't think he is.... but I could be wrong.

think of it like the Heat, it's still DWade's team.

Paul would be joining Roy's team, and Paul can't win a title by himself. I don't see the problem.

You're not worried about Brandon's reaction? Think of how he reacted to Andre Miller last year, and Miller isn't 1/3 the name that Paul is. I'm just worried that Brandon will think that Paul is going to diminish his stardom, which I think will be the opposite of what happens. I think Paul could make Roy into a HOFer.

1. No it isn't.
2. If it is, it's because (a) Wade's got a ring, and (b) Wade recruited the other two. Neither true of Brandon. Brandon is probably pretty conflicted about this.

Here's my thinking: I agree that if you're going to acquire Paul, it makes most sense to swap Brandon for him. BUT: Brandon Roy is a Blazer, nothing but. Paul is a Hornet. Paul would be a great Blazer the way Scottie Pippen was a great Blazer, and maybe for about as long.

Who prefers the Pippen Blazers, where the best players were acquired from other teams where they were already established (except Sabonis, of course) to the Drexler Blazers, whose great years were all as Blazers (okay, apart from Clyde's championship, but that came later)? Nobody who saw both teams.

Now, if we get Paul, there's no way I'm not going to be excited, and there's no way I'm not going to root for Paul. But I can't understand people who can get instantly attached to a bunch of players who were your enemies just because they've just this second put on a Blazers jersey. As far as I'm concerned you might just as well imagine the Miami Heat players are wearing Blazers' jerseys. Or you're one step away from thinking the jersey doesn't matter at all, and you can just root for the Lakers because they're the bestest players.

I think you're underestimating how good CP3 really is. He's possibly the best PG to play the game since Magic.

Pippen was 34 when he played his first game for the Blazers. He'd been in the NBA for 12 seasons, including 11 for the same city.

Paul would be 25 if he gets traded this offseason, with five years in the NBA and only the last three in the same city (since he spent the first two with the Oklahoma City Hornets).

I see no reason that Paul couldn't have his best years as a Blazer and go down as the best PG the franchise has ever had.

2 of the starters on the Clyde teams were acquired by trade.

If they are wearing a Blazer uniform, they are Blazers.

Oh yes....about Roy: at the point he puts his personal glory above the team's success, he can pack his bags.

Many people doubted Paul before he entered the NBA (the Bucks, Atlanta, PatterNash) and I'm not shocked that some people are doubting him now.

If we can get him without giving up Roy/Aldridge/Oden, there's no doubt in my mind he's "worth it".

pretty much how I see it too.

I agree with this I think every aspect of Roy's game would improve efficiency wise. He probably would lose an assist or two off his game but his FG% would soar. I also think he would become a better defender with more energy. I'm just thinking this would be so huge. Roy wants to win more then anything and I think with Paul that's a foregone conclusion. I think Roy's ego could handle it. Also Roy will STILL be our closer as he is >>>>>>> the Paul at closing out a close game so he would have mega hero factor plus he's homegrown just like BlazerHippie's stash.

I've always loved CP3 even when he was killing us in games I had so much respect for him. He's a class act non-dirty player. I've ALWAYS loved CP3 and him in a Blazers uniform might be enough for me to start batting for the other team.

Who's better? Your only REASONABLE option is DWill and I would argue on that one that he has been in a vastly better system under a first ballot HOF coach. CP3 >>>DWill and nobody else should even be in the conversation I mean come on Rasta you need to be disbarred so you can no longer be the Devil's attorney after this thread.

Fuckin A! Repped for keeping your eyes on the prize!

Buck, yes. But are you including Duckworth? Did he even play one game for the team that drafted him? (Spurs?)

Couldn't they be cunningly disguised impostors?

Really? Now you're arguing a team should only be built through the draft? I'm sorry but in that era Free Agency was but an acorn compared to the mighty Oak of FA today. Even with increased restrictions free agency is vastly more fluid then ever before.

Chris Paul was a Blazer, before we traded him for Martell. Right? We are just trying to bring him back home.

No, that was Williams, and he was never a Blazer either because the trade was done before the draft.

that's not really true.

but yes, chris paul is definitely worth it. he's the best pg on the league and at the very least a top 5 player overall.

Wasn't it CP3 who taught Roy during an All-Star weekend to cry and whine after every drive? :D
