Interesting tweet from an interview with some guy from LA...

Just now on T&W: @LAIreland calls @Dame_Lillard the next @CP3 in the NBA. Do you agree?]

What say you?

Totally different play styles.... Paul is a HOF type player. Not sure if Dame is going to be that good.

Dame's career has started off more quickly than Paul, overall. Not saying that Dame is going to be a HOF player, but he's started his career off on the right path.

Eh... maybe as a scorer, but not really in any other facet of the game.

Damn you and your stats! Nobody cares about statistical averages! :MARIS61:

Fewer TO's. More blocks, too. More durable. It wasn't intended as a slight for Paul. Scoring is obviously a huge piece of the equation for HOF players. Obviously, as you look at stats, they are what they are, and they can often refer to a consistency over a period of time. I guess I probably get blinded, at times, by how frequently a particular stat line over a game, over a week, over a month, over a season, etc....... for Dame has only been accomplished so many times, if at all, and only by HOF'ers and future-HOF'ers.

The thing is, CP3 is a once-in-a-generation passer. In his first few years, he was a legit threat for a quad-double. Dame is very talented, but I don't see him ever doing that.

Which is why I find the original comparison quite odd. Paul's number one strength is his ability to make plays for others; this opens up his own offensive game. Dame's number one strength is his ability to score, which opens up the game for his teammates.

Exactly. That's why my original post was that they're nothing alike. Paul is a pass first point guard. Dame is not. Better to compare him to someone like Arenas or Hardaway or some other scorer.

If Lillard is the next CP3 then why would you trade him for Mike Conley or Kyrie Irving?

My first thought was that Ireland was suggesting that Damian was a whiny flopping little bitch. Then I realized he was talking about his talent.

Yeah I agree they are nothing alike. As much as I hate cp3 I think he is the best PG in the world right now. He is amazing at controlling the game.

I do not know how anyone that has watched the two play thinks they are even remotely similar outside of being point guards.

Yup. He's a truly gifted point guard. Probably the best we've seen since Kidd.

I prefer to not compare him to guys that essentially died.

Through a players first two years in the league he has been most like : Allen Iverson. Although when you factor in 3 point shooting he really does become the next Damian Lillard in class all his own.

I hate to make this comparison, but to me, Lillard is like a sane Stephon Marbury with leadership skills.

A pretty good comparable. An under control, team-oriented Starbury. I'll take that. And more. :)

Style wise very similar but stats wise the first 2 season Dame is better and shoots the 3 way better. But I do like a team, sane Marbury compairison
