This discussion started in another thread, but I'm curious what people think.

So far, after 6 games (so many!) here is where he ranks statistically:

#2 in Field Goals
#4 in 2-pt Field Goals
#3 (tied) in 3-pt Field Goals
#4 in Free Throws (this is huge)
#4 in Free Throw attempts
#1 in points
#3 in PPG
#8 in PER
#9 in TS%
#16 in Offensive Rating
#3 in Offensive Win Shares

He isn't in the top 20 in assists per game, but I think that will shake itself out. He is clearly top 5 in scoring (so far) but is he top 5 overall? I personally don't think so. Top 10? Yes. Absolutely. Top 5? Eh...... not yet.

what about A.D.? Curry? Durant?
Right now, AD would round out the top 5; Curry and Durant aren't putting up huge numbers but at least their team is beating bad opponents handily...

...wait...

Yeah they're underperforming right now.

In terms of overall talent I'd still say the top 5 are Curry, Westbrook, Durant, Lebron and Davis.

Harden is right there, I think Dame is closing the gap, and kawhi is definitely in the conversation.

Assists are pretty dependent upon having teammates who can hit the broad side of a barn. Right now, Dame's not getting much help in that department.

Durant is putting up huge numbers....

30/8 with a 34PER and the highest TS% in the league.

What has gone unnoticed is how bad Klay Thompson has been

16/3/3 on 38/19 shooting split. 8.8 PER. YIKES that is bad.

Klay may be available after this season. He can't be happy with his role on this new team and numbers are proving it

And they need role players in the worst way, which we could accommodate.

For the kind of money Thompson is making, he can suck it. Say what you will about Myers Leonard, at least he has made his gratitude over his salary known. But then, he came from nothing while Thompson came from wealth.....if Thompson really is unhappy about his current role he certainly wouldn't be happy on the Blazers.....

If he were here, he would be the unquestioned second scoring option, just like he was the past two years before KD showed up. He'd be thrilled.

Having said what I said, I'd still be glad to have Thompson as long as he was on a long term deal....but I think our third scorer needs to come from the front court.....

Yeah.... I would give up CJ to get Klay.... but I'm thinking it would have to be a 3 team deal because CJ for Klay doesn't make much sense.

With the PPP, CJ is basically untradeable this season anyway. The deal I suggested in the warriors game thread (CJ to Philly, Crabbe/Noel to GS, Klay here) is about the only way it could work.

Yeah.... that PPP is a bitch. Might have to wait until after the season.

I don't like top 5 currently, very difficult to choose and will always be debatable. Top 10 would be more fitting and easier to define.

Right now I'd say he's for sure one of the top 5 guards in the league.

Curry
Westbrook
Harden
Paul
Dame

LBJ/KD/AD/Westbrook/Dame/Curry/Kawhi/Harden/Paul/Aldridge

...In order.

Id love to have Thompson as our starting SF.

Aldridge is way too high. He's not even the best player on his team.

BNM

I couldnt think of another tenth.. Griffin? mmm not so sure. Drummond? No./ Carmelo Anthony? Well maybe, but he loses sooooo much....
Who would you put as 10th? Rose/Wade/Notwitsky..guys who have been on this list in years past are shells of themselves.

if you're going by just this season through 5 or 6 games the top 5/10 list has to have these players on it.
Westbrick, DeRozan, Lillard, Harden, Kawhi, KD, LeBron, AD.
Those 8 players have been far and above everyone else in the league.
My order would be....
#1 Kawhi
#2 LeBron
#3 Harden
#4 Lillard
#5 DeRozan
#6 Westbrick
#7 KD
#8 AD

But frankly these players all could be considered at the top as they're all putting up insane numbers.

Honorable mention - Mike Conley. He's been earning that contract of his. Proving he's still the most underrated player in the NBA.
